About Fort Logan

Colorado Mental Health Institute Fort Logan is adding new forensic treatment units to the hospital specifically for those courtordered to receive inpatient competency evaluation and/or restoration. Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan (CMHHIFL) is one of two state hospitals serving our community. The vision of CMHHIFL is to provide the highest quality mental health services to person with complex serious and persistent mental health illness within the resources available. Our mission is to support those individuals in achieving their recovery goals and reaching their full potential. CMHHIFL provides inpatient treatment to adult patient generally between the ages of 1849. The hospital has 94 adult inpatient beds over four treatment units and is scheduled to open an additional 44 beds (two units) in August 2022. These two forensic units will be dedicated to providing psychiatric stabilization and restoration treatment to individuals opined incompetent to proceed as a result of their mental illness. Medical servicesoccupational therapy neuropsychologicalrehabilitation services and traumainformed care services are available for all patients throughout the hospital.

Description of Job

The Nurse Manager works in tandem with other Nurse Managers and under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Nursing multiple levels of professional services as care is coordinated across a continuum. The Unit Nurse Manager adheres to and references the professional codes of conduct regulatory agency standards the Nurse Practice Act State Board of Nursing professional codes of ethics and scope of discipline practice guides to ensure various levels of nursing personnel function within their scope of practice. The Unit Nurse Manager is responsible for communicating implementing and clarifying nursing policies at the unit level as well as developing and implementing performance improvements at the unit level along with procedures at the unit level. Participates in and prepares nursing personnel for onsite surveys monitors documentation and ensures quality of care is rendered according to the State Board of Nursing The Joint Commission Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the Colorado Department Personnel Rules and Regulations.

The Unit Nurse Manager for this position will have the knowledge skills and abilities to work with the behavioral health population on this unit by providing a positive and supportive environment for patients to work towards meeting goals and milestones that are aligned with the treatment plans and plan of care.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:
Current valid licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)
AND

Four years (4) of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.

Professional Nursing Experience is defined as work experience as a Registered Nurse. Your application must clearly state your experience at this level; statements such as see resume or nursing duties will not be accepted

Substitutions:
Appropriate education will substitute for up to two (2) years of the required experience on a yearforyear basis


Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the Minimum Qualifications and Required Skills outlined above our ideal candidate will possess the following Preferred Qualifications:
  • Leadership experience supervising/managing an environment that requires collaboration with multiple disciplines.
  • Professional Nursing experience in Behavioral Health Forensic medical and Geriatrics
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multilevel nursing disciplines on the unit through training mentorship development and quality care improvement measures
Essential Attributes:

  • Must be able to see and hear to observe address and respond to potential breaches in safety and security Work in situations involving assaultive behavior physical control of another person and/or restraint situations.
  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds on occasion.
Conditions of Employment:

  • Applicants must be available to complete shift work nights evenings backtoback weekends and holiday shifts as needed
  • Must pass a preemployment Physical
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older
  • A nurse who is part of the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) can work in Colorado without the need to obtain a license. The eNLC nurse must notify the board within 30 days of their arrival but can still work without a Colorado license as long theyre a member of the eNLC compact.
  • Required Flu Vaccination unless an authorized exemption is provided.
  • Full Background Name check TRAILS Drug Screen and Fingerprinting
  • Must possess a valid unrestricted U.S. Drivers License
  • Use Handling or Exposure to hazardous materials
  • May be required to transport patients
  • Essential Services Designationrequired to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health safety and welfare.
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must (1) disclose that information on the application (2) provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position (3) provide the employee number from the applicants prior State employment. Absent extraordinary circumstances prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination and failure to provide this information will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS

An appeal or review must be submitted on the official appeal form signed by you or your representative. This form must be delivered to the State Personnel Board by email US Mail faxed or hand delivered within ten (10) calendar days from your receipt of notice or acknowledgement of the departments action.
