*PART TIME* CHILD CARE WORKER HEALTHY MOMS
Department of Health & Human Services

At Healthy Moms you will support pregnant and parenting women on their recovery journey through caring familycentered services that include substance use treatment behavioral health support and onsite childcare.   • This is for a parttime regular position.

What Youll Do:
This position is responsible for a variety of duties including:
  • Provide childcare supervision to children typically ages 6 and under
  • Provide support services to program identified needs including shopping clerical and cleaning
  • Comfortable with women in recovery and able to lift small children

Where Youll Do It:
This position is located at 2910 H St. Eureka CA.







The schedule for this position varies and is up to 20 hours/week.

Under direct supervision provides onsite child care for children of clients participating in community health education or other training programs; performs related work as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Incumbents in this class perform basic and routine child care duties under close supervision of the clinic manager.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Provides direct care for children ages 0 to five years including age appropriate activities.
  • Prepares nutritional supplements and/or meals following menus provided and in keeping with established health standards.
  • Performs personal hygiene activities including diapering; uses proper sanitary precautions.
  • Monitor childrens activities and behavior.
  • May participate in periodic child development training as provided by the department and other qualified child care specialist.
  • Provides assistance to parents in developing parenting skills.
  • Performs routine housekeeping duties including cleaning and organization of the facility.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge Of:

  • Appropriate activities for very young children.
  • Basic principles and techniques related to care of children ages 0 to 5.
  • Safe and sanitary work practices related to food preparation and service for childrens meals and supplements.
  • Sanitary methods of personal hygiene including diapering.
  • Basic child development principles.
  • Housekeeping practices.
Skill in:

  • Observing monitoring and interacting with young children.
  • Following oral and written instructions.
  • Responding promptly to childrens emergency situations.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other staff and parents.
Desirable Education and Experience:

A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills outlined above is:
Experience in performing child care for young children in a day care setting and some college course work in early childhood education or child development.

LICENSES

PROBATIONARY PERIOD

Persons appointed to regular County positions serve a probationary period. This is normally six (6) months but could be up to one (1) year. All designated safety employees serve a oneyear probationary period.


EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITY

It is the Countys intention to hire only those workers who are authorized to work in the United States pursuant to the Immigration Act of 1990. If you are offered employment you will be required to verify your eligibility to work in the United States. For law enforcement positions you will be required to verify your U.S. citizenship or legalized status.


DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS

All County of Humboldt employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section). Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Workerrelated training as assigned and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
