Thrive Scholars originated in Los Angeles as South Central Scholars (SCS) twenty years ago. Over this time the organization has refined its program model and in the last five years has focused on expanding nationally; reaching more highachieving students from underresourced communities growing the number of Scholars we serve; and deepening our program impact. Thrive Scholars has begun to grow its footprint with new summer program offerings in three additional cities. The organization has approximately 75 yearround employees and close to 200 summer Programs: Summer Academy & Thrive Academy:Summer Academy has long been the keystone of Thrive Scholars SixYear Program offering a signature summer experience through intensive collegepreparatory courses taught by college instructors. Thrives current strategic direction builds on the success of Summer Academy to expand our impact by establishing communitybased Thrive Academies in cities across the United States. We launched our first two Thrive Academies as commuter programs in Los Angeles and New York City in 2024 while simultaneously continuing to offer the residential Summer Academies for Scholars who are part of our SixYear Program. We are gearing up to open a third Thrive Academy in Chicago and expect to continue extending our reach to other cities in the coming Students:Our students are highachieving and identify as firstgeneration collegegoers and individuals from underresourced communities with an average high school GPA of 3.9 on a 4.0 scale. They are eager to learn inquisitive and highly motivated to succeed. In general they see themselves as good students who perform well in school and are determined to live up to that expectation. Students in SA 1/TA 1 are rising high school seniors while students in SA 2/TA 2 are rising college Position:Thrive Scholars is seeking to hire a team of Nurses to oversee the health and safety of Scholars and Staff at our 2025 Summer Academy. It is preferred that the nurse lives onsite but not required. The nursing staff will work with the Site Director and the Assistant Site Directors to ensure Scholars and staff have a healthy and safe summer. As these are residential programs the nursing staff will work together to provide coverage 24 hours/day via 12 hour oncall shifts for the duration of the program in case urgent matters arise. The RN/LPN is expected to take one day off per week over the course of Summer RN per site will be selected as a Lead Nurse whose additional responsibilities will be signing off on the program care plan and ensuring that all nurses are abiding by the plan. The Lead Nurse will earn an additional $2000 for the summer. Compensation & Benefits: This is a temporary fulltime exempt position with compensation between $12000$14000. Compensation level is determined by the number of weeks the program operates. Reimbursement up to $500 will be provided for travel for eligible candidates. Room and board will be provided and covered by Thrive Scholars. NonAC housing with potential for necessary accommodations. Training for this role will occur asynchronously and synchronously. 2025 Host Sites and Dates:Amherst College Summer Academy I $14000Remote Training: June 2nd June 13th OnSite Training Student Orientations & Program Preparation Dates: June 15th June 22nd Summer Academy I Session (6weeks): June 23rd July 31stProgram Closeout: August 1st 8th Reports to: Site DirectorPrimary Responsibilities:Provide healthcare to meet individual needs of staff and regular Health Center hours and be available oncall at all times for with coordinating trips to offcampus health providers physicians or emergency treatment a critical member of the response team for any health emergency which may arise at Summer as program liaison with any local healthcare maintain and utilize adequate resources for serving the health and medical needs of the students and clean and set up the Health Station in preparation of the first day of Summer inventory and work with the Site Director to order all necessary refills of medical supplies and equipment as needed over the all student medications in the Health schedule and administer proper medication times throughout the day for Scholars to receive appropriate accurate and detailed medical records according to First Aid in COVID19 testing of all Scholars and staff in collaboration with the campus if applicable. Oversee and implement the COVID19 response protocol should a student staff or faculty member test positive as the medical checkin of Scholars on the first any observable evidence of illness or communicable the accuracy of Scholar medical forms making sure that Scholars who need medication have it with them and in the proper responsible for contacting parents concerning the status of their childs health by telephone in the following situations: any injury requiring an xray illness requiring a stay in the health center or requiring Scholar to be picked up from SA emergency treatment/accident by the Summer Academy Personnel Policies and Practices as outlined in the Staff to be a personal example in conduct conversation and attitude consistent with established policies and and Experience: Must be at least 21 years of have a valid drivers license and ability to drive offcampus to a health provider physician or emergency treatment have a current Massachusetts license to perform as a RN or LPN.12 years minimum experience as a RN or be certified in Advanced First Aid and CPR for the Professional working and desire to work with young working with a racially and culturally diverse populationCommunity health to lift/assist Scholars and staff as medically to read and follow directions on medication labels health forms physician orders and parent to maintain a written record to communicate with parents staff and administration about Scholar health with CampDoc software preferred Working Environment & Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a seasonal employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role:Frequent sitting talking and listening and occasional walking bending stooping and pullingHandle and operate computers tools or controlsOccasionally lift and/or move up to 25 poundsSee clearly in an indoor and outdoor environmentWork in an indoor classroom environment that may not have air conditioning in the summerTravel off campus (transportation will be provided and advance notice will be given if required)Live in a dormitory that may not have air conditioning in the summerReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential Scholars provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment based on race color religion gender gender identity national origin sexual orientation age disability or veteran status.
