The primary purpose of the Graduate Internship is to provide an intern with relevant field experiences in their chosen field of study. One or more mentors will be assigned to the intern to provide instruction guidance and to assess performance. The intern is responsible for observing the functions and processes of the assigned work unit. In addition the intern may be given selected work assignments to reinforce the learning experience to assess the performance levels and to provide benefit to the work unit. The intern will be responsible for completing all internshiprelated assignments and reports for both Mayo and the participating educational facility. The duration and timing of the internship will be arranged with the intern.

General Items of Focus for Internship:
Two intern roles are available which will each focus on different programs within the Compliance Management Team. One intern will support the existing Confined Space Program or other appropriate compliance programs (such as Lockout Tagout) and one will assist in the development of the Ergonomics and Employee Injury Program.
The Confined Space Program Intern will receive oversight and mentoring from the Confined Space Program Manager and will focus on the facilities operation and utilities section of the business. Duties may include Confined Space (CS) Assessment Review Confined Space (ID) Verification Entry permit evaluation Tally permit data tally hazard assessment data along with other duties assigned.
The Ergonomics and Employee Injury Program Intern will receive oversight and mentoring from the compliance manager and other program stakeholders. The intern will focus on the Environmental Services (EVS) section of the business. Duties may include collecting and analyzing EVS incident report data performing job safety analysis of various activities identifying areas of opportunity and available resources promoting awareness of safe job practices to minimize injury risk and other duties as assigned.
This position is a combination of remote and onsite support work. Individual must live within driving distance to the Mayo Clinic Rochester campus.

The incumbent must be enrolled in a masters or PhD graduate degree program from a college or university majoring in Human Factors Ergonomics Risk Control and Safety Management Occupational Safety and Health or similar fields.
Typically this internship would occur after the student has taken most of the courses required by the graduate degree program. Where applicable the degree program must require an internship as a graduation requirement (or offer as a credit option). Must have authorization to work and remain in the United States without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorship now or in the future (for example be a U.S. citizen national or permanent resident refugee or asylee).
