Job Description

Position Summary

The Air Conditioning and Refrigeration instructor is to support the Colleges mission and underlying principles by providing quality instruction in Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning and Refrigeration classes that align with the needs of the Colleges service area. Planning teaching reporting recordkeeping student recruitment student advisement job placement followup and equipment upkeep are integral parts of the teaching position.

Salary Schedule: Appropriate placement on Salary ScheduleD1 IBIV ($42108 $94363) based on education and experience. Summer appointments are based on enrollment Salary Schedule D1 ($13001 $29184) based on education and experience. Annual Potential Salary including Summer Appointment ($55109 $123547)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teach 3035 contact hours or 1516 credit hours per semester and/or the equivalent in noncredit hours or a combination of the credit and noncredit course offerings.
  2. Regular and consistent attendance at work.
  3. Prepare and maintain current course syllabus according to the Colleges guidelines.
  4. Instructor must be available to teach in day night weekend classes to include training ground online virtual or hybrid.
  5. Attend training opportunities as needed.
  6. Develop and implement a program of instruction that meets the individual needs interests and abilities of students and is consistent with industry standards local and state plans of study and curriculum guidelines.
  7. Plan and employ a variety of appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities which are compatible with the physical facility but serve the needs and capabilities of the students.
  8. Plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
  9. Coordinate apprenticeships internships and Coop with Industry to include tracking and maintaining records on student progress.
  10. Good knowledge of content curriculum methods materials and equipment of instructional specialty with mastery knowledge in heating ventilation air conditioning and refrigeration
  11. Prepare and maintain program budget.
  12. Maintain lab equipment and supplies
  13. Maintain equipment inventory.
  14. Prepare program course offerings schedule for each semester and term.
  15. Develop and evaluate Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for instructional specialty.
  16. Collaborate with Construction Technology Division to develop and implement divisional goals.
  17. Good knowledge of institutions program of studies related to mission goals and organization.
  18. Update and revise courses in collaboration with faculty department chair and dean of career technical education and when appropriate the advisory committee.
  19. Maintain contact with business and industry and other potentialemployers.
  20. Hold Industry advisory committee meetings twice a year and maintain meeting records.
  21. Recruit students into program and advise through completion.
  22. Serve on divisional institution and statewide committees as appointed.
  23. Work with college ADA coordinator to provide appropriate accommodation for identified students.
  24. Maintain and conduct scheduled office hours for student conferences.
  25. Perform other jobrelated duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION STANDARDS AND TRAINING:

  1. Associate Degree in HVACR OR equivalent from a regionally accredited institution
  2. Three (3) years of documented fulltime experience as a technician
  3. Proficient with computers
REQUIRED LICENSE CERTIFICATION OR SPECIAL CREDENTIALS:
  1. Documentation of an industryrecognized credential earned or in progress (Preferred Qualifications: EPA Refrigerant ESCO Proctor Certification NCCER)
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Good written and oral communication skills.
  2. Computer skills (Microsoft Office email and online documentation)
  3. Ability to effectively respond to questions from supervisors faculty staff students and the general public
  4. Must pursue industryrecognized credentials as determined by the College (examples: OSHA 10 hour construction certification OSHA 10hour general industry certification NCCER Instructor Certification NATE (North American Technician Excellence HVACR certifications NOCTI HVACR or Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Contractors license DET (Duct and Envelope Tightness) Certifications.
  5. Ability to travel as required by the College
PHYSICAL DEMANDS STRENGTH RATING:
  1. Environment: Work is performed primarily in a shop environment with some travel; exposure to noise dust grease smoke fumes noxious odors gases and all types of weather and temperature conditions; working and/or walking on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surface and rough terrain extended hours including evenings and weekends.
  2. Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in a mechanic shop environment; walk stand and sit for prolonged periods of time; frequently stoop bend kneel crouch crawl climb reach and twist; push pull lift and/or carry moderate to heavy amounts of weight; operate assigned equipment and vehicles; verbally communicate to exchange information.
  3. Vision: See in normal visual range with or without correction.
  4. Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
