This position is located at the District Headquarters at the Black Hills Trail Office in Lead and Hardy Guard Station located 30 miles from Lead .
This position will be based out of the Black Hills Trails Office in Lead South Dakota. This District manages the 109 mile Mickelson Trail Black Hills 350 mile Snowmobile Trail System Spearfish Canyon Nature Area Bear Butte State Park and 12 Lake Access areas. This position will diagnose and repair computer and mechanical malfunctions in wheeled vehicles tracked snow cat equipment drags trailers and construction equipment to ensure safety of operators efficient operation and the integrity of Districts equipment. Other duties may include grounds maintenance equipment operation fencing signing snow removal and making sure seasonal staff are adequately trained to meet safety standards.
Candidate will work on heavy equipment and are required to lift heavy objects sometimes in awkward positions in confined spaces and often between elements that are heavy and on jacks. Candidates work around highpressure hoses and connections power presses welders and cutting torches. Repairing or recovering stalled and broken down equipment on the trails in adverse weather conditions. Candidate will also be required to work on weekends at night in deep snowpack cold and wet conditions and be on call during grooming operations.
Licenses and Certifications: This position will be required to obtain and hold a valid Drivers license and Class A CDL within 60 days of hire date. Applicant must also obtain a chemical applicators certification.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have: Experience operating and maintaining various forms of equipment hand and power tools cutting torches and welding equipment the ability to work in remote locations alone work during inclement weather conditions communicate effectively and the ability to adapt to change.
Knowledge of:
the standard principles methods tools and equipment of the automotive and diesel technology trade;
the principles of internal combustion engines different drive trains gear boxes hydraulic systems and electrical systems;
computer hardware and software;
the principles of automotive computer technology diagnostics and repair methods;
occupational hazards and safety precautions of the mechanics trade;
welding technology;
safe handling and disposal methods for hazardous materials;
human relations sufficient to establish working relationships with coworkers.
Ability to:
maintain department facilities grounds and trails to keep them in the best possible condition;
diagnose malfunctions and determine corrective actions;
operate computer software applications;
diagnose and resolve network problems;
read and interpret schematics blueprints and manuals;
operate diagnostic equipment and interpret results;
visualize an end product from an idea;
operate equipment and determine if it is functional and safe;
weld;
use a variety of machine shop tools and equipment;
transport machinery to and from job sites trouble shoot and make repairs in the field.
