English as an Additional Language (EAL) Coach and Teacher

Sask DLC requires a permanent fulltime English as an Additional Language Coach (teacher on assignment) for the 202526 school year with teaching position to be determined for the 202627 year and beyond based on current teaching assignment educational background or training and experience. The position will commence on August 25 2025. The campus location will be determined by the principal residence of the successful candidate.

Sask DLC is a Treasury Board Crown Corporation created to deliver highquality and equitable online learning programs to students across the province. Sask DLCs head office is located in Kenaston with an administrative office in Regina and regional campuses located in Estevan Kenaston La Ronge Moose Jaw Neilburg Nipawin Prince Albert Regina Saskatoon Swift Current and Yorkton.

Under the direction of the Superintendent of Student Supports the English as an Additional Language (EAL) Coach plays a key leadership role in building system capacity to support multilingual learners across Sask DLC. As a member of the Student Support Team the EAL Coach works closely with the Superintendent of Student Supports and collaborates with teachers student support teachers and professionals and external partners to develop and implement a comprehensive researchinformed framework for English language learners.

This role focuses on identifying students who may be EAL learners supporting Continuous Framework of Reference (CFR) assessments guiding instructional practices and ensuring the development of a responsive model of service for Sask DLC students. The EAL Coach serves as a subjectmatter expert and professional learning leader in the implementation of best practices instructional adaptations and datainformed supports for students acquiring English as an Additional Language.

Primary Responsibilities:

Identification and Assessment

Support school teams in identifying students who may be EAL learners based upon language use background and initial observations.

Coordinate and support the holistic assessment of EAL learners CFR levels across the domains of reading writing speaking and listening.

Develop and maintain efficient processes for the collection analysis and Ministry reporting of CFR data in accordance with provincial timelines and guidelines.

Assist with onboarding and initial assessments for newly registered students who may require EAL support.

Program Leadership

Collaboratively develop a responsive and scalable EAL Framework and workplan that outlines Sask DLCs approach to supporting K12 English language learners.

Provide leadership and coaching in the implementation of this framework and monitor progress through feedback data and research.

Align EAL programming with Saskatchewans provincial education plan including reading goals and inclusive education commitments.

Collaborate with Student Support Consultants Campus Administrators and other departments within Sask DLC to integrate EAL supports into school improvement planning and student support services.

Instruction and Pedagogy

Build teacher capacity in instructional design and implementation of highimpact strategies to support multilingual learners in a digital learning environment.

Lead the development and sharing of K12 instructional resources strategies and assessment tools that align with curriculum and support the language development of EAL students.

Providing coaching mentorship and professional development for teachers and online educational assistants focusing on evidencebased EAL instructional practices.

Promote culturally and linguistically responsive teaching practices including the integration of students cultural and linguistic assets.

SystemLevel Collaboration

Explore options for the development of EAL courses for credit at the high school level following locally developed curriculum.

Explore options for sector supports for schools across the province.

Partner with internal and external agencies (including settlement supports and cultural organizations) to enhance services and programming for newcomer and refugee students.

Represent Sask DLC at provincial working groups or advisory committees focused on multilingual learner supports.

Contribute to annual Ministry reporting on CFR levels for EAL learners.

Culture and Communication

Foster a welcoming and inclusive virtual environment where EAL students and families feel respected safe and valued.

Maintain clear and culturally sensitive communication with families particularly those new to the Canadian education system.

Guide teachers in making appropriate adaptations using the Adaptive Dimension to support students access to learning.

Lead initiatives that promote equity diversity and inclusion within Sask DLCs digital learning environment.

Knowledge Skills Abilities

Deep understanding of the Common Framework of Reference (CFR) and its application in K12 contexts.

Demonstrated expertise in EAL pedagogy including assessment differentiation and language acquisition.

Strong coaching instructional leadership and adult learning facilitation skills.

Familiarity with provincial EAL reporting practices and tools.

Experience teaching and supporting EAL learners in a K12 environment preferably online.

Proficiency in digital tools for teaching collaboration and communication (e.g. Microsoft Teams Moodle OneNote).

Strong crosscultural communication skills and an understanding of issues affecting immigrant refugee and Indigenous learners.

Knowledge of inclusive education practices and principles of the Adaptive Dimension.

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

Effective collaboration skills and an ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.

Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective teaching practices.

Knowledge and experience integrating Indigenous content perspectives and cultural practices into the curriculum.

Familiarity with assessment tools and strategies for online learning.

Ability to build positive relationships with colleagues in a remote context.

Passion for fostering inclusive culturally relevant learning experiences for all students.

Ability to adapt and support changes in the workplace due to changes in policies legislation or school needs.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision by demonstrating sound judgment discretion and decisionmaking skills to ensure quality of work meets expected standards.

Demonstration of excellent interpersonal skills to work as part of a team establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers Saskatchewan Distance Learning Corporation staff and the public.

Ability to conduct oneself in a manner appropriate to Sask DLC and demonstrate strict attention to the confidentiality of Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre operations and information.

Ability to exercise good judgement discretion and tact in dealing with staff and the public.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor of Education (.) or equivalent teaching certification in Saskatchewan.

Training and/or certification in ESL TESL or equivalent training in second language acquisition and EAL instruction.

Previous experience teaching Kindergarten to Grade 12 students preferably in an online or blended learning environment.

Valid Saskatchewan teaching certificate with Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board (SPTRB) and membership with the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation (STF).
