Job Description

Position Title: Education Program Trainer


Company Description: NAMI San Diego & Imperial Counties (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is a nonprofit organization that provides free education support services and advocacy to improve the quality of life of everyone affected by mental illnesses.


Primary Responsibilities/Function:

This position is responsible for conducting Education Courses both in person and online (virtual). The course includes the eight class NAMI Family to Family course. This course is designed for family members and direct supporters of individuals who live with mental health challenges. This position may also conduct workshops parent groups and community feedback sessions for family members and direct supporters of individuals with mental health challenges. Responsibilities include outreach with recruitment activities course preparation data input and coteaching.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Coteach NAMI Signature programs in person and online.
  • Assist with recruitment and outreach activities across San Diego County.
  • Assist with documentation and input of evaluation data.
  • Build solid crossfunctional relationships.
  • Provide logistical support.
  • Mentor and motivate with strong training skills.
  • Maintain a strong positive viewpoint towards mental health.
  • Utilize planning organizing analyzing problem solving communication time management and coordinating skills.
  • Work with diverse populations plus the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Keep agency and program information confidential and be discreet.
  • Support NAMI San Diego/Imperial County mission and values.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Accountability: Reports to Family Education Program Manager.

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Must be able to lift up to ten pounds at a time.

Minimum Requirements:

Including linguistic and cultural skills education experiences licenses and certifications

  • Bilingual in Arabic or Somali.
  • Proficiency with Zoom preferred.
  • Lived experience as a mental health family member/direct supporter of a loved one with mental health challenges preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Reliable and consistent attendance.
  • Knowledge of San Diego Countys Adult Behavioral Health social services and children centered resources a plus.
  • Skilled in trainings and presentations in person and online.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to complete eight session Family to Family class as a participant previous class completion preferred.
  • Certified NAMI Family to Family Teacher preferred but can train.
