Job Description

About the organization: Compass Family Services is a 100 year old nonprofit working on the front lines of San Franciscos homeless crisis. We provide families experiencing or at risk of homelessness with comprehensive support to address immediate needs and ensure longterm success.

About the team: Compass CRent team provides San Francisco families with financial assistance to prevent eviction or pay for movein costs on a new home. Families are also provided with case management to support them in becoming economically selfsufficient and maintaining their housing.

Compensation: $2630 per hour

Schedule: Full time (7.5 hours/day) Monday Friday primarily during standard working hours

What the Eviction Prevention Specialist will do:
The Eviction Prevention Specialist will work with families in the CRent program helping atrisk families access funds to pay back rent and utilities so they dont become homeless. They will also provide support and referrals to assist families in maintaining stability. This is a fastpaced position which requires someone with deep compassion for families facing homelessness an ability to juggle many responsibilities at once and strong attention to detail. In addition to the work with families this position includes significant dataentry into Salesforce and funder databases.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Meet with families at risk of homelessness to determine eligibility for rental assistance program.
  • Problem solve with families and refer out to other community organizations when the qualifications for Compass program arent met.
  • Maintain uptodate and thorough client files and enter data accurately into Salesforce and funder databases.
  • Assist families to collect and ensure accuracy of all necessary documentation to process a rental assistance request.
  • Communicate with landlords to explain the program advocate for clients and/or to followup on prior rental payments.
  • Collaborate with external partners and other Compass employees to ensure client families receive high quality services.
  • Provide crisis intervention information and referrals family budget assistance and advocacy to families to ensure housing retention and stabilization.

The Eviction Prevention Specialist should have these skills:

  • Fluency in Spanish required.
  • Ability to connect meaningfully with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Understanding of homelessness including causes challenges faced by homeless families and available resources in the Bay Area.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Outstanding work habits: punctuality communication reliability cooperation organization professionalism. Ability to work independently and to juggle many responsibilities concurrently.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity equity inclusion and belonging work.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Suite of Programs (Outlook Word Excel Power Point etc.). Salesforce experience is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary range: $26 $30 per hour based on experience languages spoken and education.
  • 7.5 hours per day / 37.5 hours per week. Nonexempt.
  • Paid time off: 4 weeks of vacation the first year 5 weeks in following year. Also paid holidays sick time family leave time off for education.
  • Insurance: health dental and vision insurance are fully covered by Compass for employees and dependent children. We also provide long term disability and life insurance.
  • Retirement: after one year of work Compass contributes an amount equal to 5% of your salary into a retirement account; this vests during years 26.
  • Membership in OPEIU/Local 29 union.

Location:

  • The Case Manager will primarily work at our main office at 37 Grove St. less than one block from Civic Center BART/Muni. After three months they will have the option to work remotely one day per week pending manager approval.
