Reporting to the Labor Relations Manager the Senior labour Relations Advisor advises managers to ensure the proper management of labor relations through the compliant application of collective agreements standards and legislation. They contribute to maintaining a harmonious work environment between unionized employees management and union representatives. As a Senior Labor Relations Advisor they act as the main point of contact during labor relations committees.
Responsibilities
- Advises and assists managers in the interpretation and application of collective agreements and applicable employment legislation and ensures their compliance;
- Provides technical advice to labor relations advisors;
- Assists managers with complex employee relations management issues including discipline labor disputes and corrective measures;
- Supports managers in managing and improving employee performance (improvement plans probation period extensions etc.);
- Leads the investigative process for disciplinary attendance or other HR issues: information gathering stakeholder meetings information analysis assisting in decision making drafting appropriate measures and following up with relevant parties;
- Participates in collective agreement renewals along with the Labour Relations Manager and/or the Director of Collective Bargaining;
- Conducts various legislative research ;
- Monitors new legislation or changes and adapts existing procedures and/or policies accordingly;
- Develops and maintains constructive relations with union representatives to foster a positive work environment;
- Leads the various labor relations and related committees;
- Prepares leads and participates in grievance meetings with the support of the labor relations advisors;
- Prepares various files for matters such as : grievances arbitrations negotiation of collective agreements;
- Collaborates in work related accidents and disability claims for unionized employees;
- Supports and advises managers on the accommodation process
- Acts as a reference person for the companys legal and judicial representatives in arbitration proceedings with the possibility of representing the Company at mediation and pleading arbitrations;
- Manages and supports the implementation of certain projects and initiatives in their area of responsibility.
Qualifications :
- University degree in labour relations or equivalent;
- A minimum of 68 years of experience in a Labour Relations role;
- Knowledge of federal jurisdiction (Canada Labor Code) is an asset;
- Demonstrates good leadership skills and is proactive;
- Client oriented and strong ability to influence others and strong communication skills ;
- Team spirit and creativity ;
- Bilingualism is essential (French and English)*.
Additional Information :
*A good knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec. The incumbent will be required to communicate and collaborate frequently in English both orally and in writing with colleagues customers and other stakeholders in Quebec the rest of Canada and internationally.
