Job Description Summary
The Manufacturing Process Engineer role for the grinding area has responsibility for all aspects of the manufacturing elements required to form grind blade and vane components of gas turbine engines. There will be ownership of projects related to these processes to improve safety quality delivery and manufacturing productivity. The role requires crossfunctional team involvement to solve issues and make long term plans for improvements. The role requires mastery of grinding technologies used in aerospace applications theoretical knowledge of conventional grinding applications grinding equipment fundamentals and key process parameters utilized in grinding aerospace alloybased metals. Impacts quality of own work and the work of others on the team. Executes standard operational/technical tasks typically subject to instructions and work routines. There is latitude to rearrange the sequence to complete task/duties based on changing work situations.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Responsible for manufacturing processes utilizing single and dual wheel radial ring grind dual wheel straight conventional grind and 35axis conventional grinding.
- Assist in technical leadership for production technical resources. Aid in driving shop floor support and assist on improvement projects with production technical team.
- Exposure to crossplatform grind machines with knowledge of basic operations troubleshooting and acts as first level of support alongside production technical team.
- Develop a strong understanding of grinding technologies related to crush dress form grind processes work holding fundamentals tooling and equipment used for compressor airfoil manufacturing.
- Collaborate and support equipment upgrade strategy for area of discipline.
- Support efforts to write equipment specifications ordering machine runoffs installation and final acceptance.
- Develop and execute on project plans of moderate impact often involving multiple support functions to accomplish. Ability to communicate targets and achievements across all levels of the business.
- Aid in troubleshooting grinding process or machine related issues using root cause analysis to implement solutions.
- Define and control production process including tooling and equipment. Validate design specifications and shop floor application of new product tools or equipment. Includes Manufacturing Engineers.
- Broadening knowledge of own technical discipline to execute policy/strategy. May include support roles with specialized technical field of knowledge; still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills.
- Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
- May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework. Resolves issues in situations that require good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures. Consults more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters.
- A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and may be required to lead a junior team. For customer facing roles develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Explains technical information to others.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college (Or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in Manufacturing & Production Process and Equipment)
