General Summary:
The Director of Stewardship and Gift Management is responsible for the planning implementation and monitoring of donor stewardship and gift management under the direction of the Senior Director of Development and Planned Giving. Ensures that Sheppard Pratt demonstrates the appreciation and value of continued philanthropic support through appropriate acknowledgment of gifts donor recognition the honoring of donor intent and the effective and efficient use of funds to further the mission of the organization. The Director of Stewardship and Gift Management is also responsible for writing proposals and preparing timely stewardship reports.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties:
1) Program Oversight & Operations
- Develops and drives the strategic vision of Sheppard Pratts stewardship program and is responsible for ensuring the successful execution of all stewardship practices which are designed to enhance the donors connection and increase the likelihood of initial and continued contributions. These practices include gift acknowledgement communications; narrative impact reports; financial reports for endowed funds; donor recognition; endowed lectureship material; and other donorcentric activities that arise.
- Establishes and manages information tracking processes regarding acknowledgement and stewardship to ensure that all gifts requiring stewardship receive it in a timely manner.
- Works closely with the Development Operations officer to accurately record all gifts in Raisers Edge and thoughtfully stewarding each donor in alignment with their contribution.
- Oversees the development and maintenance of an effective workflow between Finance and Philanthropy to ensure proper allocation of funds while equipping colleagues with the context needed to articulate the impact and benefits of utilizing philanthropic resources.
- Oversees the master stewardship calendar and provides personalized and impactful donor updates.
- Oversees and manages Impact the philanthropy magazine from conception through production. Print and electronic versions.
- Manages the development of gift proposals sent to donors and prospects considering supporting Sheppard Pratt.
- Works closely with the Senior Director Development and Planned Giving to identify key stewardship opportunities and develop the best personalized strategy to steward individual donors. Then together with the team devises a plan to execute tactics for reporting to donors in a timely and impactful way.
- Develops and assesses policies and procedures to increase the effectiveness of stewardship activities.
2) Planning
- Develops implements and monitors a recognition plan for all philanthropic gifts.
- Leads the planning and organizing for all cultivations and stewardship events.
- Plays a critical role in sustaining positive and mutually rewarding relations between Sheppard Pratt and its donor community.
3) Donor Recognition
- Creates thank you letters to acknowledge all gifts to Sheppard Pratt.
- Creates regular major donor updates regarding specific health system funding priorities.
- Works with the Senior Director of Development and Planned Giving to create and implement stewardship plans for each major donor.
4) Customer Relations
- Holds a portfolio of approximately 125 donors and prospects: solicits cultivates and stewards portfolio and maintains relationships with long standing supporters of Sheppard Pratt including but not limited to members of the 1853 Society.
- Actively participates in internal and external community events to support and promote Sheppard Pratt.
- Actively seeks to enhance Sheppard Pratts initiatives to meet the needs of patients clients individuals with chronic mental illness as well as other customers families donors trustees staff local businesses government communities national organizations and foundations.
- Promotes and maintains positive relationships with donors staff clinicians and patient families.
- Plays a critical role in sustaining positive and mutually rewarding relations between Sheppard Pratt and its donor community.
- Creates and maintains acknowledgement matrix; responsible for ensuring it is adhered to.
- Monitors all donor signage throughout all locations.
- Coordinates the approval and implementation of donor recognition.
5) Comprehensive Campaign
- Works on components of the comprehensive campaign as assigned including but not limited to naming/recognition opportunities; developing and adhering to gift policies and procedures.
- Works closely with the CDO to develop campaign signage plans recognize Foundation corporate and individual campaign supporters and maintain and report campaign progress.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:
1) Position requires 5 years of stewardship development experience or experience in a related field involving the management of longterm customer relationships and working with highlevel institutional executives and volunteers. Must have experience partnering with senior development staff in developing complex gift proposals with multiple stakeholders.
2) Requires knowledge of fundraising theories principles and concepts program planning and evaluation and strong oral and written communication skills acquired through a bachelors degree in business marketing or related field of study; superior proofreading skills; and strong computer skills including indepth knowledge of Raisers Edge Word Excel and Power Point.
3) Requires problemsolving critical thinking skills and conceptual skills sufficient to make recommendations implement donor recognition strategies and prepare meaningful financial reports.
4) Requires the ability to meet deadlines respond promptly to donor requests for information and manage the demands of multiple projects.
5) Position requires superior verbal and written communication skills sufficient to effectively interact with a variety of Sheppard Pratt directors and trustees physicians and foundation leaders; speak knowledgeably and persuasively on behalf of Sheppard Pratt to foundations and individuals vendors and patient families; translate technical and scientific information into lay language; and demonstrate talent in developing and presenting proposals in the most compelling fashion.

Pay for this position is determined on a number of factors including but not limited to years and level of related experience.
