GEMS(Global Energy Management and Sales) is one of the global business units of in energy markets GEMS mission is to ensure the competitiveness of ENGIEs business units and to develop its own franchise with external customers through a comprehensive range of services related to risk management energy asset optimization and trading. Role Purpose

As the Lead Storage Optimisation you will play a crucial role in enhancing our shortterm energy storage automated trading operations. Your primary purpose will be to create develop improve and maintain automated trading strategies for our BESS and hydro portfolio.

You will collaborate closely with traders quants developers and analysts to understand their needs and translate them into technical solutions thereby directly contributing to the success of our trading strategies.

Last but not least you will own the vision of the optimiser. So you will be responsible for driving the optimiser product to the level expected by the traders which means you will have to collaborate with IS teams (local and central) to implement the UK requirements.

Main activities

  • Work closely with traders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions. In particular:
  • Creating new optimisation strategies.
  • Improve existing strategies.
  • Analyse results of the strategies and to propose solutions to improve them
  • Deploy the strategies in the cloud (AWS is a plus).
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines to ensure smooth deployment and continuous integration.
  • Coordinate with IS teams to:
  • Explain the UK optimiser vision
  • Prioritize the needs of the UK storage optimisation team
  • Follow the progress of the developments

  • Client centricity: communicate with traders analysts and quants understand their needs share strategy and results challenge their needs and coordinate with other IS teams in Energy Management UK
  • Team player: foster good collaboration and communication within the team and internally
  • Adaptable: be able to react to an everevolving world like energy trading and propose reliable solutions to the changes

Experience:

Essential:

  • Proficiency in Python programming
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Having optimised BESS assets in the UK is a plus.
  • Strong experience in machine learning and cloud services (AWS is a plus).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and related tools is a plus.
  • Strong communicator with an ability to engage colleagues effectively and to convey technical concepts to nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Collaborative approach to problem solving
  • Confident decision maker aware of the value at stake
  • Higher education or appropriate experience.
  • Eager to learn and adapt in a fastevolving business environment.
  • Curious and proactive in exploring new technologies and solutions.

Desirable

  • Experience working in trading environment close to traders.
  • Energy trading knowledge.
  • Data science and optimisation skills
  • University degree in a quantitative area (eg IT engineering mathematics economics)

Location

  • Team based in London Liverpool Street area. Flexible/hybrid working is available (minimum 2 days per week in the office)
