Job Description
Position Summary
Seabird Island is committed to culturally enriched learning experiences. We are dedicated to creating a culturally safe and inclusive environment that respects and values Indigenous knowledge traditions and ways of being. We are seeking Summer Students to join our team in delivering a fun and engaging Summer Program for children aged 612.
Under the direction of the Middle Years and Childcare Services Team Lead Summer Students will provideguidance and support to children participating in the program. Responsibilities include leading recreational activities promoting safety and serving as positive role models. The program includes field trips outdoor playand learning. This is an exciting opportunity for secondary students to build leadership skills while making a meaningful impact in the community.
This is a 7week term contract for secondary students looking for summer employment. This position has a start date of late June.
What youll do
- Support the delivery of activities and experiences that reflect the needs of the children.
- Assist in creating a safe healthy and inclusive environmentemotionally and physicallyby contributing to flexible routines accurate record keeping family engagement and the planning of developmentally appropriate programming.
- Participate in daily operational tasks such as meal preparation cleaning and general program setup and takedown.
- Adhere to center procedures for maintaining health records and administering medication under supervision.
- Promptly report all accidents injuries or illnesses to the Supervisor and document incidents according to established procedures.
- Follow reporting protocols for suspected cases of child abuse or neglect in alignment with the centers policies and in collaboration with the Supervisor.
- Support the coordination and supervision of field trips and special daily events to ensure safety and enjoyment for all participants.

- Additional responsibilities as needed to support the community and uphold our shared values.
What you Bring
Qualifications
- Enrolled in fulltime High School duringand returning fulltime in September 2025.
- First Aid Babysitting Food Safe certificates would be an asset
- Good communication and relationshipbuilding skills.
- Experience working with children.
- Ability to work as a member of a team as well as the ability to effectively interact with children.
- Will be responsible for child safety and may be required to lift children alone or in pairs.
- Indigenous status/nonstatus on/off reserve who resides within the SASET catchment area
- Must be willing to participate in physical activities.
- Participants must be a minimum of 15 years old and have a SIN Number.
- Must have a Bank account and a BC Services Card.
Working / Special Conditions
- Initial and ongoing employment is subject to submission of a clear Criminal Record Check to ensure the safety and trust of the communities we serve. This check will be conducted every five years.
- Initial and ongoing commitment to the values and guidelines of Sqwqel (Seabird Island Band) including our policies procedures standards of practice and laws is essential. This commitment supports our collective work the community and the responsibilities of this role.
