Cartas fund administration platform supports nearly 7000 funds and SPVs representing $150B in assets under administration in venture capital and private equity. Trusted by more than 40000 companies Carta also helps private businesses in over 160 countries manage their cap tables valuations taxes equity programs compensation and more.
Together Carta is creating the endtoend ERP platform for private markets. Traditional ERP solutions dont work for Private Funds. Private capital markets need a comprehensive software solution to replace outdated spreadsheets and fragmented service providers. Cartas software for the Office of the Fund CFO does just that its a new category of software to make private markets look more like public markets a connected ERP for private capital.

As we continue expanding beyond Venture Capital into Private Equity markets were building solutions to address the unique challenges of clients managing companies and funds structured as LLCs. These entities vary widely in contractual structures and represent diverse asset classes requiring a flexible and scalable data model that supports distinct product experiences. Additionally Private Equity firms their investors legal partners and portfolio companies interact with our platform through different user personas and permissions making robust access control and tailored experiences essential.
As a Senior Engineer on this team youll play a critical role in shaping the next generation of ownership management products. Youll work closely with product design and gotomarket teamsas well as directly with toptier Private Equity firms and enterprisescale clientsto deeply understand their needs and deliver highquality technical solutions.
In this role you will:
- Architect design and build highly available secure and scalable financial platforms
- Collaborate crossfunctionally to align requirements and translate them into userdriven features
- Model the complexity of LLC structures and asset classes into flexible and extensible system designs
- Follow testdriven development (TDD) practices to ensure high quality and reliability
- Provide technical leadership through thoughtful code reviews and design discussions
The Team Youll Work With
Youll be joining our Private Equity Portfolio Companies team. We launched the Carta LLC product in 2020 and after discovering a repeatable gotomarket motion have been on a journey to scale it across the entire portfolio of Private Equity companies. Were also expanding to support a wide range of ownership management workflows.
The scope and impact of each individual on the team are immense. We are biased toward action and believe in the mantra: build measure learn. As part of our team youll work closely with product managers and designers to understand the motivation (why) behind a customer need define the scope of work (what) and collaborate with your engineering peers to build solutions (how) that deliver meaningful customer value.
About You
You deeply care about your user and are relentless in your pursuit to build delightful user experiences that wow the customer! You are energized by solving deep problems collaboratively who can easily transition between a Solver and Tech Lead archetype. Additionally
- You have 5 years of fullstack or backend engineering experience
- You are passionate about some elements of our tech stack (ReactJS Java Datadog REST / GRPC Kafka K8s AWS)
- You are excited to work with stakeholders across engineering product business and marketing
- You have a desire to become a product domain expert and refine ambiguous product requirements to deliver customer value
- You see communication as one of your strengths
- You want to build and own your work endtoend
- You are eager to move fast but recognize when to build for the future
Salary
Cartas compensation package includes a market competitive salary equity for all full time roles exceptional benefits and for applicable roles commissions plans. Our minimum cash compensation (salary commission if applicable) range for this role is:
- $175950 $207000 in San Francisco CA; Santa Clara CA
Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on geography candidate experience and expertise and other factors.
