Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and managing general accounting operations including the preparation of financial statements budgeting and financial analysis for real estate properties and development projects. This role requires deep knowledge of real estate accounting practices attention to detail and the ability to work crossfunctionally with other departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and review monthly quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and internal reporting requirements.
Manage general ledger activities including journal entries account reconciliations and monthend close.
Track and account for real estate development costs project capitalization and cost segregation.
Handle property accounting functions including rent roll reconciliation CAM reconciliations and lease accounting.
Assist in the preparation of budgets forecasts and variance analysis for both corporate and propertylevel operations.
Support annual audits and coordinate with external auditors.
Ensure compliance with internal controls and company policies.
Collaborate with asset management property management and development teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
Monitor cash flows and assist with treasury functions.
Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
Mentor and review the work of junior accounting staff.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field (CPA preferred).
5 years of accounting experience preferably within the real estate industry.
Strong understanding of real estate accounting principles including GAAP cost accounting and lease accounting (ASC 842).
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Yardi MRI QuickBooks or similar).
Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial modeling and reporting.
Excellent analytical problemsolving and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a deadlinedriven environment.
Preferred Experience:
Experience with real estate development and construction accounting.
Familiarity with real estate investment structures such as LLCs joint ventures and REITs.
Experience with investor reporting and capital account tracking.
