The Department of Accounting and Commercial Law in the Sobey School of Business at Saint Marys University invites applications from Indigenous and Black Scholars for a limited term appointment at the Assistant Professor or Lecturer rank commencing August 4 2025 (8month teaching contract with a 4week paid preparatory period). The recruitment and retention of Indigenous and Black scholars is critical to building a culture of inclusivity and to integrating diverse expertise and experiences in curricular offerings research/scholarly activities teaching and service.
The aptitude and ability to teach classes in Commercial Law at the undergraduate level is required. Universitylevel teaching experience will be an important consideration for the appointment. The successful candidate will normally teach a total of five class sections over the Fall and Winter semesters of the academic year if hired at the Assistant Professor rank or six class sections if hired at the Lecturer rank. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in student advising and support as well as other service activities.
Job Information and Responsibilities
Most undergraduate commercial law classes are taught inperson and on campus and use a common syllabus. The successful candidate will be expected to help develop that common syllabus teach several sections and coordinate our Commercial Law course at the introductory level. Other potential teaching assignments at the undergraduate or graduate level beyond the primary needs of the introductory course will be determined by the Department Chair based on the candidates background interests and program needs.
Experience and Education Requirements
For an appointment at the Assistant Professor rank an earned doctorate is expected. For an appointment at the Lecturer rank a masters degree in an applicable field and/or a professional law degree and significant recent professional legal experience is required.
