    Job Description

    Title: Health Aide
    Hours: 7:00am3:00pm; 9:00am3:00pm W
    Location: Middle School

    Qualifications:
    1. Minimum of High School Diploma required advanced degree preferred.
    2. Minimum of oneyear experience as a CNA or EMT required.
    3. Successful completion of physical criminal background and child abuse registry check and prework screening at the time of hire.
    4. Experience working in an educational setting the ability to understand student behavior with diverse backgrounds and needs.
    5. Ability to obtain required training prior to work; including stateapproved medication certificate and American Heart or Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification.
    6. Ability to obtain additional training as assigned by the districts nurse related to district health procedures and protocols.
    7. Ability to make decisions withinguideline provided.
    8. Ability to use and understand basic technology and computer programs.
    Reports to: Building Principal

    Job Goal: To assist the nurse to achieve a harmonious nurses office and provide help to meet the needs of the atrisk child in areas including but not limited to: health screening nutrition home and school related issues wellness health education counseling drug and alcohol abuse and human growth and development.

    Performance Responsibilities:
    1. Work as a team member with the nurse.
    2. Minimum of High School Diploma required advanced degree preferred.

    10. Relate effectively and appropriately with students and parents.
    11. Follow school health procedures and policies.
    12. Maintain health and welfare of children.
    13. Give meds and keep records.
    14. Encourage children to be as independent as possible about their own health care.
    15. Assist with health/atrisk services.
    16. Receive and direct phone calls.
    17. Type file and record information.
    18. Follow procedures in emergency situations.
    19. Request assistance from the school nurse and counselor.
    20. Aware of and knowledgeable of services available to atrisk students and families.
    21. Provide an appropriate role model for the students.
    22. Maintain confidentiality on sensitive information.
    23. Other duties as assigned.

    Physical Demands
    1. Must be capable of standing throughout the work day.
    2. Must present appropriate appearance and personal cleanliness suited to working in close proximity to school age children and adults.
    3. Must be able to work with interruptions during a work shift.
    4. Must be capable of working with students with different personalities capabilities and physical and mental limitations.
    5. Must be willing to come into contact with body fluids such as urine and feces blood and nasal secretions and contagious diseases such as flu and the common cold.
    6. Must be capable of using cleaning and sanitizing chemicals with appropriate care.
    7. Must have physical dexterity in limbs and digits necessary to physically interact with children in a school setting.

    Note: The physical demands described above represent real life tasks an employee may need to perform as part of the essential functions of this job. While the frequency may be low the above stated physical demands may be required during the course of a daily work shift. Tasks that have physical demands that exceed the above stated limits should only be performed with sufficient manpower or material handling equipment.


    Clothing:
    1. Appropriate clothing and footwear for an environment where sharps chemicals or body fluids may fall onto exposed skin.

    Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Southeast Polk Board Policy.

    Terms of Employment:
    1. Employment based on need; report on days the students are in school.
    2. Hours and number of days assigned as need requires.
    3. Salary and benefits per negotiated agreement.
