Location/Schedule: This position is located at Alberta Kitchen in NE Portland OR. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Position Description: The Cook is responsible for the preparation of meals to be served in Cascadias Residential program sites while complying with all applicable sanitation health and personal hygiene standards and following established food production policies and procedures in accordance with all state and local health regulations. With the high prevalence of trauma among individuals receiving mental health services it is required the Cook understand the effects of trauma on health coping and other aspects of the lives of those we serve.
All incumbents must understand appreciate and respect the diversity and cultural differences within our Cascadia community. It is expected that there is an awareness and sensitivity to the perspectives and perceptions to those we serve as well as our colleagues. As Cascadia is Trauma informed the incumbent must support a Trauma Informed Care Environment. With the high prevalence of trauma among individuals receiving behavioral health services it is required that the incumbent understand the effects of trauma on health coping and other aspects of the lives of those we serve.
Essential Responsibilities

- Responsible for food preparation that are of high quality meets diet restrictions and done in a timely manner to meet program expectations
- Responsible for keeping food costs low by using FIFO (First in First Out) shelving techniques
- Complete basic kitchen maintenance and sanitation tasks and properly prepare label and store food that is prepped in advance. Store food in compliance with HAACP guidelines.
- Communicate around concerns including changes to recipes and menus to management and provide support to other kitchen staff when needed
- Receive and track food product and return when required and help to load and unload food
- Must maintain skills necessary to safely and efficiently operate food equipment such as the following
- Demonstrate professional boundaries; assist in crisis when necessary complete required annual trainings.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Certifications:
- Oregon food handlers card
Experience:
- 2 years of professional cooking experience with institutional and highvolume cooking
- Knowledge of commercial food service equipment
- Experience with preparation of special diet meals
Specialized Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to utilize a variety of the fields concepts practices and procedures.
- Ability to use and modify recipes provide accurate portion sizes and ensure that the meals are prepared utilizing proper food preparation and handling techniques.
- Ability to use Outlook email and computer software systems for food ordering and prepare simple reports
Other:
- Must be able to read and speak English at a level to read menu and recipe cards and cooking instructions.
- Possess a valid drivers license threeyear driving history; clean driving record ability to pass Driver Motor Vehicle (DMV) check and complete the Cascadia online Defensive Driving course and Cargo Van Drivers Test
Working Conditions
- Requires being able to checkin load and organize produce and donations in the kitchen while carrying out production tasks.
- Meal periods and breaks are subject to interruption. Universal Precautions and remaining alert to the environment are critical to address the potential for violent behavior exposure to disease biohazards noise and contaminants.
- The Cook must have the ability to assist the team in providing safety to all residents and staff in potentially volatile situations.
- Occasionally sitting stooping climbing crouching reaching keyboarding and running
- Regularly walking andlifting (20 to 50 lbs)
- Constant standing visual and auditory
