Job Description
The Opportunity: PLA Behavior Interventionists work with our scholars teachers and parents to reduce the number of classroom exclusions and suspensions by building strong and positive relationships with our scholars and providing scholars with positive coping strategies.
The Details:
Key Deliverables:
- Respond to classroom disruptions
- Provide consistent responses to scholars by modeling and teaching calming strategies
- Practice deescalation tactics with the goal of reintegrating scholars back into class quickly
- Proactively provide scholar tools needed to support alternative behaviors
- Reinforce PLAs PBI system/process
- Provide behavior supports as determined by IEPs
- Work in collaboration with Climate and Culture Specialist teachers and school leaders to support overall campus culture goals
Experience and Education Requirements:
- Bachelors degree preferred
- Computer knowledgeable
- Experience working with children and ideally behavior issues a plus

The Campus:
PLA @ Nixon Elementary School in Montgomery AL 36105. We service about 400 students and believe that every student is a scholar. With the right education scholars can fulfill their tremendous innate potential and become leaders in their communities and the world. In 2022 with the support of the Montgomery Education Foundation (MEF) and Phalen Leadership Academies (PLA) Nixon Elementary School became a premier charter school in Montgomery Alabama. We work together with parents and the community to improve the educational outcomes of our scholars and neighborhood families. Nixon Elementary School exists to serve the local community and create a safe and thriving space for scholars to feel loved empowered and encouraged through quality education.
Compensation and benefits:
PLA Behavior Interventionists receive a base salary that is competitively aligned with the market. In addition to a base salary Behavior Interventionists receive:
