Job Description Summary
The Graduate Resident Director ( GRD ) is a livein parttime leadership role designed for current Chapman graduate students who are passionate about student development community building and crisis response. GRDs assist in the daytoday operations of one of our continuing student residential communities and serve as cosupervisors for a team of 4 Resident Advisors. Reporting to an Area Coordinator GRDs help lead staff trainings support student conduct processes respond to crises as part of an oncall duty rotation and engage students through intentional programming mentoring and campus partnerships. GRDs will also participate in checkin/out processes safety inspections and administrative functions such as budget oversight facilities followup and occupancy management.
Responsibilities
Supervision & Leadership : Cosupervise 4 Resident Advisors Lead weekly 1:1s and staff meetings Participate in RA hiring training and evaluations May also support Office Assistants or programming team (based on placement) Student Support & Community Engagement : Serve as a resource for residents navigating personal academic and social concerns Address community needs and promote inclusive residential experiences Assist with student referrals and wellbeing checkins Conduct & Accountability : Facilitate community conversations and adjudicate lowlevel conduct cases Document incidents and maintain records in Advocate system Promote educationbased accountability and behavioral trends analysis Crisis Response & OnCall Coverage : Participate in a 24/7 oncall duty rotation (excluding university holidays/breaks) Respond to emergencies and collaborate with campus partners during crises Exercise sound judgment and calm leadership under pressure Operations & Administration : Support checkin/out occupancy management and safety inspections Maintain regular office hours and assist with room access/facilities followup Manage budget oversight and submit endofsemester reports
Required Qualifications
Must live onsite in a furnished apartment provided by Chapman University Enrolled in a Chapman masters or doctoral program by Fall 2025 Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with diverse populations Experience or interest in student development supervision and/or campus housing Comfortable enforcing university policy and addressing student conduct Ability to lead training sessions and plan events Committed to confidentiality professionalism and inclusion Available to work evenings and weekends as needed
