MTC Language App Innovator & NLP Analyst

This position is central to the missionaries role to Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement repentance baptism receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost and enduring to the end. The Language Tools Design Specialist are support entry level individual contributors that improves learning outcomes for thousands of missionaries learning over 60 languages by maintaining and improving the visual fidelity of online missionaryfacing resources. Specialists are responsible for managing visual and instructional designs accessibility standards and quality control/analysis.

This position is expected to continue through December 2025 with the possibility of extension pending a review of the 2026 budget.

Reports to manager level in the Training Department
Reviews course design standards and accessibility (e.g. font color captions/transcripts to accompany audio/video etc.) to ensure that individual needs are met
Creates intuitive and engaging instructional designs lowfidelity UX designs highfidelity UX design and iterate each based on user testing
Maintains a library of design elements that are used across Canvas courses including design templates
Develops and implements quality check process for new and maintained courses
Regularly follows up with course designers
Suggests improvements and communicates changes to templates design standards or other course elements to course designers and internal departments (e.g. tech support teams).
Describes features in sufficient technical detail so they can be programmed and tested by others on the team; review implemented designs to ensure they fulfill the design well
Creates surveys to discover how to better align language apps with missionary needs
Interprets survey results in order to recommend solutions and create designs
May include other temporary assigned duties at the MTC (e.g. assisting with Mission Leadership Seminar)

Required:
1 year of experience or coursework in computational linguistics instructional design machine learning user experience design
Passion for helping fulltime missionaries and improving missionary language learning with technology
Impeccable attention to detail and organized workflow
Ability to work autonomously
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work across departments
Strong writing design and analysis skills
Proficiency in Excel or Google spreadsheets
Ability to receive and implement feedback
To successfully perform the essential functions of the job there may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting for long periods of time and using monitors/equipment.

Preferred:
Learned a second language as a missionary
1 year of experience with language learning technology
1 year of experience in HTML/CSS and/or GitHub
2 year of universitylevel coursework in computational linguistics instructional design machine learning and/or user experience design
1 year of experience with UX design tools (e.g. Figma Adobe XD)
1 year of experience with TALL Embark
1 year of language teaching experience
1 year of SQL and statistics experience
Familiarity with MTC curriculum and practices
