Job Description

Western Washington University with over 15000 students in seven colleges and the graduate school is nationally recognized for its educational programs students and faculty. About the Position

The Parking Guide is responsible for the enforcement of parking regulations at Western Washington University in accordance with Washington Administrative Code 516. Parking Guides are committed to providing services and resources to the Western community by helping people access the campus in alignment with the departmental values of Student Success Sustainability Transparency and Respect. Utilizing active community patrolling the Parking Guide works independently to educate Westerns parking community and enforce Westerns parking regulations. They provide customer service by actively listening to and answering questions while in the field. Parking Guides provide services to assist members of Westerns parking community through the Motorist Assistance Program. Additional duties include working and supporting campus events and providing administrative support to the department.

There are two positions available; one is swing shift (12 8:30 pm).

Required Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and the ability to provide constructive and effective customer service interactions.
  • Prior customer service experience.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage confrontational situations with professionalism and selfdiscipline while respecting the rights and dignity of others.
  • Demonstrate the ability to understand and apply regulations with equity and justice.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use hardware and software systems for monitoring.
  • Demonstrate the ability to observe and report situations incidents and conditions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to stand for long periods walk long distances and operate a motor vehicle for long periods of time.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work outside in all weather conditions and lift 30 pounds.
  • Must wear the uniform provided and maintain a professional appearance.
  • Must have a current valid Washington state drivers license and have had a valid drivers license for at least five (5) years.
    • Include a copy of Driver License with application.
  • Within the past three (3) years no suspension/revocation of license for reckless driving hit and run leaving an accident scene failure to appear DUI or other vehiclerelated felony; or multiple traffic offenses (4 moving violations/infractions in 12 months/5 moving violations/infractions in 24 months) resulting in a Conditional Status driving record or subsequent suspension/revocation of license or 6 or more moving violations within a 12month period resulting in license suspension.
    • Include a copy of Abstract of Driving Record with application.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with enforcing regulations and specifically parking regulations.
  • Background in customer service interacting with the public and handling difficult and stressful situations.
  • Experience working independently.
  • Professional driving experience and basic vehicle repairs and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with the WWU campus reading maps and giving directions.
