Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant
Under the direction and supervision of a Speech and Language Pathologist the Speech and Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) assists in supplementing enhancing and extending speech/language therapy services by completing a variety of tasks such as but not limited to direct activities with students designed to develop prelanguage and language skills oralmotor control for speech production vocalization and use of assistive technology devices for communication. The SLPA serves students who have identified speech and language disorders and may have other disabilities as well.
Responsibilities
- Implement the treatment program or the individual education plan (IEP) as designed by the supervising licensed speechlanguage pathologist.
- Conduct carryover activities to transfer a students newly acquired communication ability to other contexts and situations.
- Represent speech pathology at the admission review and dismissal (ARD) Committee as directed by the supervising speechlanguage pathologist.
- Conduct observations and prepare clinical materials.
- Work with classroom teachers to implement classroom activities to improve communication skills of students. Student Management
- Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for maturity level and interests of students.
- Establish control and administer discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required including maintaining clinical records in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws State Board of Education rule and board policy.
- Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.

- Additional responsibilities may include: afterschool tutoring or Saturday school and are based on the needs of our students.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelors Degree from an accredited fouryear educational institution is required. Communicative Science and Disorders Degree Preferred.
- Certification: Texas License as Speech Language Pathology Assistant
- Experience: 50 hours of Clinical Observation and Assisting experience as required licensure

- Effective classroom management and instructional strategies.
- Flexibility to travel between two campuses as needed.
- Bilingual preferred but not required
