POSITION SUMMARY

The Dump Truck Driver hauls gravel rock and other materials from one site to another to support the Dirt Crew. The Dump Truck Driver is an integral position that ensures driveways pads as well as general drainage and septic plans are properly prepared in a timely manner. In most cases they selfload.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to developing and maintaining a safe working environment
  • Maintain personal safety and watch out for the safety of others
  • Accept and appreciate your fellow team members watching out for your safety and offering suggestions or advice
  • Comply with all OSHA safety guidelines
  • Maintain an OSHA approved first aid kit
  • No passengers other than employees may ride in Treeline company vehicles without prior management approval
  • Communicate with team members and customers in a positive and collaborative manner
  • Communicate both effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals in person on the telephone and via twoway radio
  • Maintain a positive and problemsolving attitude
  • Adhere to Treelines employment handbook
  • Operate trucks to deliver materials to construction and customer sites in a safe and efficient manner
  • Maintain vehicle in a clean an orderly condition inside and out
  • Maintain operator logs timecards mileage sheets vehicle repair sheets and records in accordance with company policy and departmental transportation regulations
  • Performs daily safety and maintenance checks. If you find a problem report it immediately
  • Perform pretrip and posttrip inspection pursuant to DOT regulations such as checking fluid levels of engine oil antifreeze tire pressure brakes appropriate load security etc. of vehicle to ensure safe operational order and report maintenance or repair issues immediately
  • Do not knowingly operate a truck trailer or piece of equipment that has a potential DOT violation
  • Obey applicable laws and follow dispatch instructions
  • When loading ensure proper materials are loaded in a safe manner
  • Get out of truck before dumping to check surroundings powerlines trees limbs etc. Make sure anyone around is standing in a safe distance from the load
  • Be familiar with tag tongue reach tailgate position and location of levers and switches.
  • Pull levers to tilt body and dump contents
  • Shovel material as required
  • Set spreader chains when applicable
  • Check delivery tickets for special instructions and complete them prior to arriving on the job
  • Coordinate with:
  • Dispatch or Road Crew Manager regularly for hauling schedule
  • Service Department to ensure maintenance and repairs are performed in a timely and efficient manner
  • Perform other related duties as required or directed whenever necessary


Requirements

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Maintain driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations and meet Treelines company requirements.
  • Ability to follow instructions guidance and critical feedback from supervisor and management
  • Ability to deal with other employees in a diplomatic manner in stressful and high pressure situations.
  • Operate dump truck within company policy and state and federal laws.


EDUCATION EXPERIENCE and CERTIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Class A or B Commercial Drivers License.
  • Ability to pass Federal DOT drug screen
  • Maintain driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations and meet Treelines company requirements.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle feel or operate objects tools or controls and reach with hands and arms.
  • Remain sitting for up to 90% of the workday.
  • Demonstrate visual and auditory acuity in order to safely operate equipment
  • Climbing in and out of machine or truck frequently
  • Exposure to periodic moderate to fairly loud noise below 85db
  • Working outdoors in Maines fourseason weather conditions and temperatures
  • Wearing OSHA required PPE


Work Environment:

  • The driver will work outside up to 60 percent of the time and drive approximately 50 percent of the time.
  • The temperature range exposure is from 40 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit depending upon the time of year.
  • Other weather and environmental conditions that may persist are rain sleet snow wind and high humidity.
  • The driver is subject to exposure to slippery surfaces such as icy or muddy conditions.
  • The driver has exposure to moving objects such as other vehicles on the highway or at the terminals and plants.
  • The driver is subject to moderate exposure truck plant and/or other highway noise.
  • The driver is subject to a moderate amount of high elevation. This occurs climbing in and out of the Dump Truck.
