Position Summary
Bechtel has a strong commitment to protecting people and the environment as part of its mission and is known for industry leadership in Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H). ES&H teams are comprised of three distinct disciplines that support our ES&H Management System and processes at project sites and offices. These teams include environmental scientists safety specialists and industrial hygiene scientists.
Collectively they provide technical guidance and perform planning risk assessment inspections and monitoring training and data management. An opportunity exists to work within the ES&H team at our Cardinal Project located in New Albany Ohio. The Sr. Safety Specialist helps develop and execute the safety component of an Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) program. This involves administrative and field tasks per established industry practices procedures and regulatory and Bechtel requirements. The position requires practical application of occupational safety and related disciplines for managing safety and health aspects of a project or facility. This position is a fieldbased role with no direct reports. The position reports to an ES&H Area Supervisor and ES&H Manager or Deputy as required.
Major Responsibilities:
Executes assignments involving significant safety and health issues and risks using judgment and experience in the application of scientific techniques and plans to reduce the potential for adverse impacts.
Integrates safety and health requirements into proposals planning documents design construction commissioning and startup operations schedules procurement and subcontract documents.
Provides input on bid decisions proposal development and estimates (scope constraints schedules budgets) with respect to integration and compliance with safety and health requirements.
Interprets requirements and provides technical assistance within ES&H teams and to other project groups regarding risk and hazard assessment plan preparation and ES&H program execution.
Researches issues and regulatory requirements performs studies and risk assessments and prepares documentation and reports.
Performs safety studies risk assessments and other safety and health reviews.
Drafts and helps implement the project Safety and Health Management Plan associated plans and procedures and training program as required.
Helps establish emergency preparedness and performs incident investigations. Helps identify stakeholders and resolve their concerns.
Provides input to other project groups so that safety and health requirements are integrated within project planning design construction plans procurement and subcontracts.
Participates in meetings as required with customers project team members and contractors/subcontractors to advise them of safety and health requirements.
Conducts inspections and monitoring to help evaluate ES&H performance identify corrective actions and confirm compliance with contract regulatory project and Bechtel requirements.
Develops safety and health communication through publications flyers posters signs banners and other communication media.
Analyzes data tracks ES&H performance and trends and prepares technical reports.
Supports other ES&H team members and tasks associated with all three ES&H disciplines. Additional Qualifications/ResponsibilitiesEducation and Experience Requirements:
A Associates degree in one of the same disciplines with 1 or more years of relevant experience; or 23 or more years of relevant safety or health experience.
Valid drivers license.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
