WZZM 13 On Your Side in Grand Rapids Meteorologist is looking for a PartTime Temporary Meteorologist/MultiSkilled Journalist to join our Weather Impact Team for the Summer. The successful candidate will forecast weather for our weekend morning newscast and fillin other dayparts as necessary. You must have a passion for meteorology and the ability to explain weather patterns and how they impact the lives of our viewers. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills and understand the importance of owning the big weather story every single day. You must be willing and able to successfully engage with audiences on all platforms. Your goal is to create an experience for your audience on air and online. Solid severe weather experience is a must. Must be able to cover breaking news severe weather inconvenient weather weather/climaterelated stories and daily news coverage as needed.
Responsibilities:
Provide accurate and compelling weather forecasts on multiple platforms
Produce clean creative and informative graphics to tell the weather story
Prepare and deliver severe weather updates interrupting regular programming and streaming platforms as necessary
Update website and engage with viewers on social media platforms daily
Develop unique daily weather story ideas from climate change to relevant weather explainers
Write edit and report on weather breaking news and daily news content from the field or inside the newsroom
Collaborate with the weather team to produce special reports and seasonal outlooks
Perform other tasks as required by the news director & chief meteorologist
Requirements:
BA/BS degree in Meteorology with some experience as an MSJ
At least one year of professional meteorology and content production experience preferred.
Experience with shooting video and video editing.
Be proficient at posting content to various websites and social media; computer literacy required including weather and newsroom computer systems.
Demonstrated ability to engage audience with headlines and social media posts.
Strong understanding of AP style including ability to rapidly edit and/or rewrite stories.
Highly motivated individual with creative and aggressive approach to driving digital and broadcast results.
Ability to work independently and multitask confidently under tight deadlines.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including night weekend and holiday shifts.
