Facilities Maintenance Technician

The Fort Worth Botanic Garden Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining repairing and enhancing the physical infrastructure and systems of a historic 120acre botanic garden. This role ensures that the gardens facilities grounds and equipment operate efficiently and safely providing an exceptional experience for visitors and supporting the preservation of the gardens legacy.

Key Responsibilities

Accountability:

  1. Perform routine and preventive maintenance on buildings greenhouses pathways lighting and other infrastructure.
  2. Perform drywall tape bed texture and paint repairs.
  3. Maintain tools equipment and inventory ensuring operational readiness and efficient use of resources.
  4. Use the right personal protection equipment (PPE) and safe working practices.
  5. Identify and address safety hazards and maintenance issues proactively.

People Management/Interactions:

  1. Proactively collaborate with garden staff volunteers and contractors to support maintenance projects and special initiatives.
  2. Foster a collaborative work environment encouraging communication and teamwork across all levels of staff.
  3. Support crossdepartmental needs while minimizing disruptions to Garden operations program activities such as classes and tours and guest experiences.

Communications:

  1. Communicate daily with your manager regarding work progress challenges and priorities.
  2. Report facility issues promptly and recommend solutions to maintain smooth operations.
  3. Provide clear instructions and updates to staff and contractors regarding maintenance tasks and timelines.
  4. Engage in all campus communication methods to stay informed and share information. This includes email MS Teams texts calls and newsletters. Communicate with others clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing. Ensure understanding of oral and written instructions.

Qualifications

Competencies: Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Proficiency with drywall tape bed texture and paint repairs.
  • Proficiency with maintenance tools equipment and machinery including troubleshooting and repair techniques.
  • Basic understanding of historic preservation practices and their application in maintaining heritage structures.
  • Strong problemsolving skills with the ability to identify and resolve maintenance issues efficiently.
  • Organizational and time management skills to prioritize and handle multiple tasks effectively

Additional Job Requirements

  • Physical ability to lift 50 pounds climb ladders and work in varying weather conditions and terrains.
  • Successfully pass a physical exam to assess whether the individual can perform the duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Willingness and availability to work on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Occasional evening and holiday work to support events or respond to emergencies.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Willingness to adhere to safety protocols and workplace policies consistently.
  • Basic computer and mobile phone app skills sufficient for benefits enrollment time reporting and electronic communication.
