Job Description

Montgomery College accepts applications for Adjunct/Parttime Faculty on a continuous basis. Applications may be reviewed periodically based on the student enrollment needs. The listing of a course in the schedule of classes as TBA does not constitute an assignment. The hiring decision for parttime faculty involves an academic judgment and shall be determined at Managements sole discretion.

Job Description

The Montgomery College Takoma Park/Silver Spring & Rockville campuses are currently accepting applications for possible openings as a parttime faculty member teaching in Food Production Labs Hospitality Law Food and Beverage Cost Control Supervision and Leadership and other courses related to hospitality management. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism a strong commitment to our students and demonstrates the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner.

  • The listing of a course in the schedule of classes as TBA does not constitute an assignment.
  • The hiring decision for parttime faculty involves an academic judgment and shall be determined at Managements sole discretion.
  • During the academic year parttime faculty at Montgomery College may teach no more than 11.5 ESH (equivalent semester hour) per semester and no more than 23 ESH per academic year.
  • During summer parttime faculty at Montgomery College may teach no more than 10 ESH (equivalent semester hour) for both sessions combined.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach assigned courses related to hospitality management.
  • Teach a varied schedule of courses that may include day night weekend and/or accelerated sections.
  • The ideal candidate will also demonstrate a strong interest in supporting grantrelated career readiness initiatives including internship and externship assistance student mentoring and other related activities

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or higher in Hospitality Management Hospitality Business Food Studies Culinary or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 510 years of management experience in the culinary or hospitality industry.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience teaching at college level.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the community college philosophy and mission.
  • Willingness and flexibility to teach course sections as needed.
  • Ability to integrate technology into course delivery.
  • Ability to teach in a multicultural setting.

  • Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting belonging inclusion and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the Colleges strategic plan of inclusion.
  • Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e. office classroom college campus)*. Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC email account and access to the learning platform passwordprotected faculty sections of the website college listservs and other faculty communications tools. *If you do not have access to a personal computer please notify the department chair at the time of interview. Subject to available funds the college may be able to provide temporary access to resources.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without a sponsor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching hospitality courses at the college level.
  • Masters Degree in Hospitality Management Hospitality Business Food Studies Food Science Event Management or MBA.
  • 5 years of experience in upper level management

For degrees earned outside of the U.S. a copy of your education equivalency conducted by a nationally recognized evaluation service must be included in your application.

Employees must live in Maryland or a state where the College has payroll reciprocity (DC VA PA WV DE MA).
