Job Description

Lighthouse Lab Services seeks a fulltime Lead Medical Technologist for an established acute care community hospital in Chicago IL.

About the Position:

Working under the Clinical Laboratory Director the Lead Medical Technologist performs clinical testing across all patient groups and provides daily guidance to lab staff on workload procedures and policy. They serve as a resource for technical issues support quality assurance education or technical initiatives and ensure accurate timely results. They also oversee corrective actions for test system issues and report only valid results.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs moderate to highcomplexity clinical testing and advanced troubleshooting.
  • Operates calibrates maintains and troubleshoots lab equipment and analyzers.
  • Develops and maintains teaching/training materials; coordinates training competency assessments and continuing education.
  • Supports lab leadership in maintaining operations employee competency and regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in inspection readiness and quality assurance activities.
  • Acts as liaison between staff and management; implements process improvements based on staff feedback.
  • Stays current on new technologies and recommends upgrades or improvements.
  • Writes and maintains procedures and policies per accreditation standards.
  • Assists in total quality management quality review and proficiency testing.
  • Serves as a technical resource and mentor; provides consultation to clinicians.
  • Assists in interviews billing processes and phlebotomy oversight.
  • Analyzes quality control data to identify trends and performance issues.
  • Oversees validation/verification of instruments methods and tests.
  • Manages supply inventory and applies asset management principles.
  • Evaluates quality control and proficiency testing results to identify/correct issues.
  • Develops monitors and reports on performance improvement and QA plans
  • Coordinates and maintains the competency program; ensures compliance with accrediting agencies.
  • Collaborates with LIS/IT for test build software validation result display accuracy and documentation.
  • Serves as LIS liaison communicates updates trains staff and oversees upgrades or new system installations.
  • Performs regular LIS checks and implements necessary updates; assists with computerrelated projects.
  • Completes all other duties as assigned and instructed.

Required Qualification:

  • Bachelors degree in chemistry physical or biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution with at least four years of laboratory training and/or experience in high complexity testing.

OR

  • Associate degree in laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution with at least eight (8) years of clinical laboratory experience in high complexity testing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MLS or MT or MLT or equivalent certification from ASCP or AMT.
  • Two years of lead or supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory.

  • 2nd shift 3pm11:30pm
