The Crisis Response Team Unit Supervisor is a crucial First Responder within the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility. Operating 365 days a year 24/7 our facility relies on the Supervisors leadership and immediate respond to disturbances escapes fires evacuations natural disasters and/or nonemergency responses. The Crisis Response Team Unit Supervisor will direct a team of highly skilled individuals who are trained in traumainformed responses. This role is vital in ensuring the safety and security of our facility and the community it serves.
Required Tasks
- Oversee all TraumaInformed Crisis Response Team operations.
- Schedule team member assignments to maintain adequate coverage on each shift.
- Gather and review statics on critical incidents within the facility to develop solutions for reduction.
- Conduct rounds to assess the teams daily activity and interactions with residents.
- Oversee a shift of TraumaInformed Crisis Response Team Members and ensure daily objectives are complete.
- Ensure team members follow policies and procedures and state licensing guidelines while operating.
- Provide direction to team members when activated to ensure the safety of the residents staff and team members.
- Deploy team members when necessary.
- Develop a consistent training schedule to maintain knowledge in TraumaInformed Responses Physical Management applications and other related training curriculums.
Review and approve incident reports. - Review physical restraints to ensure that learned techniques are being followed.
- Attend committee meetings to introduce new ideas for developing the unit.
- Issue discipline when policies and procedures are violated.
- Hold team meetings to ensure continuity among all shifts and make certain that the team is successfully fulfilling its mission.
- Learn policies and procedures related to traumainformed crisis response security and control and other related institutional policies correlating to child licensing rules.
- Provide crisis intervention stabilization and support to units within the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility where juvenile residents present behavioral health concerns or are in an active state of crisis.
- Evaluate posed threats to determine the need for a supportive response with a primary focus on verbal deescalation.
- Conduct routine and nonroutine welfare checks of all housing units to ensure stability.
- Conduct routine and nonroutine safety and sanitation inspections of all housing units to mitigate entry of illegal contraband or weapons into the facility.
- Assess behavior patterns and adverse health conditions in juveniles and follow proper medical reporting procedures.
- Conduct routine fire safety inspections and test duress alarms for functionality.
- Conduct routine fire and emergency evacuation drills.
- Build relationships with juvenile residents and possess the ability to establish trust and cooperation with the residents while maintaining a high standard of professionalism assertiveness and leadership.
- Build relationships with local law enforcement fire and EMS and be able to coordinate efforts to control a critical incident if needed.
- Supervise the Crisis Response Team Specialists and the Crisis Response Team Leaders.
Transport juvenile residents as needed. - Respond safely to the facility in the event of a critical incident if called upon within mandatory time range.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience
- A high school diploma with at least five (5) years of experience in Law enforcement military and/or a secured/correctional facility Preferably in a position of leadership OR
- An Associates Degree and at least three (3) years of experience in Law enforcement military and/or a secured/correctional facility; OR
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university preferably with major coursework in Criminal Justice Human Services Psychology Sociology Social Work or a closely related field AND
- Two (2) years experience in a leadership position within law enforcement military and/or a secured/correctional facility
- Must possess a Valid Drivers License
- Applicant MUST have or be able to obtain Central Registry Clearance. Candidates that have lived outside of Michigan must provide clearance from that State.
