The Director will be responsible for leading the Center in prioritizing and developing a dynamic externally funded research agenda partnering with agencies to prevent and reduce delinquency in the state creating and implementing a plan for the Center to increase trainings for juvenile justice practitioners in the state partnering the Center with faculty members in relevant areas for research and training translating research to training and policy and managing staff. The Director is expected to create and implement a vision that aligns with Centers legislative mandate and the universitys vision in the PVAMU 2035: Journey to Eminence Strategic Plan: Prairie View A&M University will be a premier public researchintensive HBCU that serves as a national model for student success.
In this role the Director will maintain a teaching load of 1/1. Collaboration with university faculty staff and administration is essential to prioritize and lead a nationally recognized Center as well as to develop targeted workshops and outreach programs. A commitment to undergraduate and graduate education management and operational experience success at managing an organizational budget and strong interpersonal skills are essential qualifications for the next Center Director.
Responsibilities:
Carry a 1/1 teaching load in the Department of Justice Studies.
Work with and mentor students in the College of Juvenile Justice.
Identify and obtain external funding opportunities for research and dissemination.
Contribute to department college and university service activities.
Ensure the Center follows its mandated mission.
Manage a fulltime staff.
Lead stakeholder engagement and networking.
Develop strong partnerships with relevant agencies.
Supervise the development of practitioner certificate programs evidencebased trainings continuing education programs seminars workshops and conferences.
Support staff to conduct and disseminate research on juvenile crime and its prevention.
Collaborate university faculty staff and administration to prioritize and lead the Centers research agenda.
Manage the Centers budget
Represent and market the accomplishments of the Center.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Doctorate in Criminology Criminal Justice Social Work Sociology Forensic/Criminal Psychology or related field.
Scholarly record commensurate with appointment at the rank of tenured Associate Professor upon appointment.
At least 4 years of administrative experience.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Successful record of external funding.
Ability to demonstrate planning leadership teamwork and organizational skills.
Experience developing and maintaining partnerships with agencies.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Skills in public relations and dealing with community leaders.
Preferred Qualifications:
5 years of administrative experience.
5 years of experience managing an organizational budget.
Strong track record of research and publications on juvenile justice trends in delinquency and best practices for preventing and reducing delinquency.
Prior experience in a tenured faculty position.
