Description

The Lancaster County Detention Center is seeking an experienced and motivated leader to serve as our Jail Administrator. In addition to the duties listed below the ideal candidate will have a strong background in policy and process development. As we prepare for the opening of a new Detention Center this position will have the overall responsibility for developing the new policies and procedures associated with the new facility.

Examples of Duties

Responsible for the supervision of daily center operations ensuring the safety and security of inmates staff and the citizens of Lancaster County through the efficient and effective enforcement of policies and procedures. Reports to the Chief Deputy.

Supervises subordinate Detention Supervisors; supervisory duties include instructing planning and assigning work reviewing work maintaining standards coordinating activities acting on employee problems selecting new employees and recommending employee transfers promotions discipline and discharge. Evaluates the work of subordinates; offers advice and assistance as required.

Coordinates South Carolina Department of Corrections Inspections to make sure minimum standards are met.

Ensures the proper maintenance and timely repair of facility equipment as needed by coordinating with county maintenance.

Conducts weekly inspections of the entire facility including cells and inmate property.

Receives and reviews time sheets arrest reports citation reports bond payments commitments bond hearing certifications warrants and citations victim forms summonses memos etc.

Prepares and/or processes performance appraisals training records weekly/monthly/annual reports purchase orders invoices and inventory records;

Supervises officers that process jail list booking reports property release forms hold form both Live Scan and physical fingerprint cards intake forms visitation log daily log waivers various other logs reports records memos correspondence etc.

Typical Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent (preferred educational level of Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice or related field) supplemented by ten years of experience as a Detention Center or Corrections Supervisor or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities. Must hold required South Carolina Class 2 and SCCJA Jail Management certifications or be able to obtain them within 1 year of hire. Must possess a valid drivers license.
