Job Description

The United States Naval Academy Alumni Association and Foundation in Annapolis Maryland is seeking an hourly Communications Intern to support our Communications Team for the summer.

The Communications Team is searching for an intern candidate to help manage and organize our digital asset management system CANTOensuring metadata is properly added and photos are curated for various projects. This role also includes supporting Shipmate and general communications needs such as adding photos to preproduced videos. An ideal candidate would have photography experience as theyll be responsible for capturing events both on and off the Naval Academy grounds known as the Yard. Familiarity with media organization and asset management is a big plus especially when it comes to working with different media formats (e.g. offloading from SD cards maintaining a clean and structured file system). This is a great handson opportunity for someone looking to sharpen their skills in digital content creation particularly in photography with some exposure to video and social media. Theres also plenty of room to showcase their talent by capturing beauty shots of the Naval Academy Yard.

Responsibilities

The Communications Intern will assist the Communications team in a variety of ways including:

  • Photography and Video Production Assignments
  • Manage special projects assume additional duties as assigned
  • Assist with social media and as necessary
  • Assist with regular research of USNA alumni history news stories and so on
  • Available during normal office hours Monday Friday 8am 4:30pm

Qualifications

  • Working towards bachelors degree from an accredited college
  • Clear attention to detail and organization
  • Have an interest in:
    • Digital Communications
    • Gaining professional experience
    • Higher education communications/fundraising/nonprofits
    • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint)
    • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information
    • A sincere and enthusiastic belief in the mission of the U.S. Naval Academy

Projects

  • Help manage and organize digital assets in CANTO ensuring accurate metadata and curated photo collections
  • Support Shipmate and general communications needs (e.g. adding photos to preproduced videos)
  • Capture events on and off the Yardphotography experience strongly preferred
  • Assist with media organization and asset management including offloading from SD cards and maintaining a structured file system
  • Contribute to digital content creation with opportunities in photography video and social media
