Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Pediatric Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to provide exceptional care to individuals from birth to 20 years old with medically complex conditions in our subacute facility. This role focuses on maximizing each childs functional mobility comfort and participation in daily activities while integrating therapeutic goals into a holistic care plan. Ideal candidates will have experience in or a strong interest in working with children who have chronic conditions ventilator dependence gastrostomy dependence neuromuscular disorders or significant developmental delays. Flexible hours (approximately 24 hours per week) with the possibility of extending hours in the future. The PTA will be responsible to the Physical Therapist and the Rehab Supervisor/Director of Rehab.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow treatment plan as prescribed by the physical therapist and can work under direct or indirect supervision of physical therapist.
  • Have knowledge and skill to treat pediatric patients with complex medical needs including tracheostomies ventilator support gastrostomy feeding tube neurological conditions congenital abnormalities developmental delays and traumatic brain injuries.
  • Implement individualized therapy plans to improve strength range of motion positioning mobility and overall quality of life that have been selected and delegated by the supervising physical therapist.
  • Modify a specific treatment procedure in accordance with changes in patient status within the scope of the established treatment plan.
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary team members including family nurses respiratory therapists occupational and speech therapists and physicians.
  • Participate in care team meetings and contribute to longterm care planning and discharge readiness.
  • Supervises Physical Therapy Assistants and/or Physical Therapy Aides and RNAs in direct resident care and patient related activities.
  • Provide caregiver education and training to promote carryover of therapy goals into daily routines.
  • Document all daily progress notes in compliance with regulatory and facility standards.
  • Records treatment charges per policy and procedure.
  • Secure necessary durable medical equipment for residents to facilitate independence in mobility (i.e. orthoses walkers standing frames etc).
  • Assists with monthly wheelchair clinic.
  • Reports any problem with department equipment so that it is maintained in good working order.
  • Conduct inservice training programs for hospital staff regarding physical therapy services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Graduate from a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Educationaccredited physical therapist assistant education program.
  • Valid California Physical Therapist Assistant License (or eligibility to obtain prior to start date).
  • Pediatric or subacute/longterm care experience preferred but willing to train: physical disorders with a strong neurological background.
  • Current CPR/BLS Certification.
  • Comfortable working with patients with complex medical needs including assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
  • Sufficient verbal and written communication skills to perform the tasks required.
  • Strong teamwork clinical judgment and communication skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
  • Physical requirements: Lifet at least
