Position Description:
The Leaves Technician is responsible for all clerical duties associated with the medical leaves for the Jefferson Parish Schools district.
Reports To:
Director of Benefits and Leaves
Scope of Responsibility:
- Maintains file folders for all medical leaves.
- Provides accurate information and documentation to employees regarding medical leave.
- Sorts incoming mail email and faxes.
- Distributes all documents to matching employee medical files.
- Enters and maintains new leave request information into the medical leave database.
- Creates a new medical leave file for employees taking leave for the first time.
- Followup on all incomplete leave request with the employee and the employees supervisor.
- Requests the employees available sick time from the payroll department to process the leave. Accurately approves/denies medical request with the proper paperwork submitted in by employee.
- Accurately counts employees FMLA coverage for medical leave.
- Completes medical request applications with approval/denial.
- Completes FMLA letter to indicate eligibility or time used.
- Sends information to the employee and employees supervisor.
- Maintains a leaves database with approved/denied medical leave request.
- Followup on approved medical leaves that are coming to an end.
- Informs employees of needed documentation to reinstate from medical leave.
- Communicates with school/department on return of employee from medical leave.
- Maintains medical leave files once leave is completed and filed.
- Performs all other duties assigned by the Director of Benefits and Leaves or the Executive Director of Employee Services and/or Chief Human Resources Officer.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology and basic anatomy.
- Knowledge of common legal terminology.
Physical Involvement:
Sitting is required most of each work day. Must be able to operate office equipment. Standing walking reaching bending and lifting up to 30 pounds is sometimes required. Must possess mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work areas.
