SUMMARY
West Valley High School is seeking a highly qualified collaborative candidate to join the CTE program and teach Engineering & Manufacturing. Candidates who can establish a positive rapport with students from diverse backgrounds make learning relevant through innovative curriculum design and coach students toward their individual goals will have the most success in this position. This position will work collaboratively with the existing Engineering teacher to develop a robust Engineering and Manufacturing program. The successful candidate must complete the applicable Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Training related to the courses outlined below. Training registration and up to 40 hours of pay per course will be covered by the school district.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience teaching at the high school level.
- Career and Technical Education (CTE) certificate in Technology Education (V210100) STEM Technology (V141000) or Manufacturing Technology (V150100); or demonstrated eligibility to obtain a conditional CTE certificate related to the assignment.
- Experience teaching in diverse classrooms.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate subject matter endorsement
OR CTE Certificate directly related to the teaching assignment
ORDemonstrate eligibility to obtain CTE Conditional certification by meeting all requirements for those using the business and industry route to an initial certificate listed in WAC. Required documentation includes:
- 6000 hours of occupational experience related to the appropriate V code
- 2000 of those hours must be within the past ten years otherwise candidates need an additional 300 hours of relevant paid or volunteer experience within the past two years.
- Completion of Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Training related to the course(s) is required.
- Knowledge and experience with current industry standards in engineering and manufacturing with the ability to teach students the foundational skills that lead to the career pathway.
- Ability to stay up to date and connected to industry partners to ensure that the skills being taught align to current industry standards.
- Demonstrate value and respect for all students staff and families including typically underserved students.
- Demonstrate mature behavior and ability to use sound judgment in working with students parents staff and the community.
- Experience relating positively with diverse populations of students families and staff including various abilities and disabilities.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with students staff administrators and parents/guardians.
- Experience with integrating technology into learning planning teaching and recordkeeping.
- Experience effectively collaborating with colleagues to fulfill common departmental/program goals and objectives.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Center instruction on high expectations for student achievement by providing clear learning goals and scales celebrating success and understanding student interests and backgrounds.

- Use effective teaching practices that allow students to effectively interact with new knowledge practice deepen knowledge and engage in cognitively complex tasks.
- Use effective teaching practices including asking questions of students probing incorrect student responses noticing when students are not engaged and implementing effective reengagement strategies.
- Use effective teaching practices by helping students use and apply academic vocabulary and evaluate the effectiveness of individual lessons and units.
- Recognize individual students learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs by using effective scaffolding of information with a lesson and planning and preparing for the needs of all students.
- Provide clear and intentional focus on subject matter content and curriculum using established content standards approved curricular resources and educational technology.
- Foster a safe positive learning environment by creating a welcoming classroom space organizing the physical layout of the classroom and establishing classroom rules procedures and expectations.
- Manage a safe positive learning environment by demonstrating withitness acknowledging adherence to rules and procedures applying consequences for lack of adherence and displaying objectivity and control.
- Use multiple data elements to track student progress and modify instruction to improve student learning by designing instruction informed by ongoing formative and summative assessments.
- Communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community through positive interactions.
- Exhibit collaborative and collegial practices focused on improving instructional practices and student learning by seeking mentorship for areas of need or interest promoting positive interactions with colleagues participating in district initiatives and monitoring progress relative to the professional growth and development plan.
- Encourage students to think independently problemsolve and express original ideas.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly productive classroom environment.
- Evaluate student academic and social growth keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
- Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress.

- Supervise students in outofclassroom activities during the assigned work day as required.
- Maintain professional competence through active participation in education activities provided by the district and selfselected professional growth activities.
- Administer or monitor standardized tests in accordance with district and state testing programs.
- Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment or on a district level.
- Participate in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and 504 meetings as necessary.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and work yearare determined by thenegotiated agreement and the needs of the District.
Verification of identity and United States work authorizationmust becompleted before employment commences. The successful candidate for thispositionmust complete a fingerprinted background check with the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Employment is contingent upon clearance of the background check.
