Job Description

Class Title: Music Teacher (All Grades PreKindergarten 12) Department:SchoolClassification: Teacher 183 days Immediate Supervisor: Principal and/or DesigneeCLASS DESCRIPTIONUnder the direction of the Principal and/or designee instruct students in the technical aspects of music and singing conduct rehearsals evaluate and grade student performance. Encourage students to learn and appreciate all genres of music. This position explains and demonstrates artistic techniques; organizes performance groups; keeps up to date with the latest developments in their specific field; incorporates music history in lesson plans; advises students on future careers; and selects and obtains materials such as textbooks and performance pieces. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND music to Grades PreK 5 school students in classes such as but not limited to piano guitar electronic music (MAC lab) band and chorus and instruct assigned classes in locations specified at designated lesson plans course materials homework assignments and handouts for assigned classes. Initiate facilitate and moderate classroom discussions. programs of study to meet the needs of individuals interests and abilities of a classroom environment that is conducive for learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of expectations and maintain standards of classroom behavior. the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals. In harmony with the goals established communicate clear objectives for all lessons units and and incorporate a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media into student lessons. Explain and demonstrate artistic the districts philosophy of education and instructional goals and and grade students classwork performances projects assignments and papers on a regular basis and provide progress reports as the developmental needs of students; coach and mentor students to improve their knowledge of music and/or skills. Seek the assistance of district specialists as required regarding student diagnosis of learning all the necessary and reasonable precautions to protect student equipment materials and accurate and complete student records (e.g. attendance grades) as required by law district policy and administrative the Administration with implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Assist with developing reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures to maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just provisions to be available for students and parents for education related purposes outside the classroom when required or requested to do so. and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aides and volunteers. In collaboration with department heads contribute to the evaluation of their job in ongoing professional regular staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required. all other related duties and tasks as assigned by the supervisor(s). KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIESWorking knowledge of district and school rules regulations and policies applicable to area of to work effectively with district personnel administrators staff and to communicate and understand information and ideas effectively verbally and in to select and use training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new of the theory and techniques required to compose produce and perform QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience:Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution required. Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) All Grades Music Certification PreKindergarten Grade 12 required. At least two (2) years of work experience be highly motivated and enthusiastic with excellent communication and interpersonal musical keyboarding skills essential and highly be able to read write and speak English be proficient with technology computers relevant software and technological devices used to enhance the learning environment. PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must be able to perform physical activities such as but not limited to lifting and/or moving objects up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift items over ten (10) pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision.
