The Department of Criminal Justice Service is seeking a collaborative and innovative team player to serve as a fulltime Research Analyst with our Criminal Justice Research Center in Richmond Virginia. The successful candidate will develop and implement webbased data collections tools prepare presentations and reports for audiences in and out of government work with data from various criminal justice and other data systems and plan research and evaluation projects to answer important questions and to help state and local agencies provide the best service to Virginians. What you will do:
Serve as leadanalyst or team leader on one or more Research Center projects and provide support on others.
Collect original data from individuals working throughout the criminal justice system use webbased survey software and use that data to produce analytical reports.
Prepare research reports presentations tables charts and fact sheets presenting the results of research and data analysis.
Work with agency staff in other divisions to support their needs for project design data collection and analysis.
Develop research designs and methodologies to address issues and concerns in the criminal justice system.
Explain research methods and results in a manner appropriate for various target audiences.
Compile research data via existing databases interviews surveys review of program policies and procedures assessment of past research and literature examination of case files and other sources.
Serve on various workgroups to provide expertise on criminal justice data and research methods.
Work with a variety of persons in various positions both inside and outside the agency.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience analyzing data and preparing reports.
Experience creating data collection tools such as surveys.
Skill with standard office software such as Microsoft Office.
Demonstrated skill and experience with statistical analysis and interpretation of data.
Experience with statistical software such as SPSS R SAS or Eviews.
Experience with data management software.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to articulate both orally and in written form research goals objectives process and findings.
Documented experience working as an active contributing team member as well as an independent and selfmotivated employee.
Demonstrated ability to meet critical deadlines handle multiple assignments changing priorities and ensure timeliness and quality of completed assignments.
Additional Considerations
Professional training/certification in areas related to research design and methodology.
Working knowledge of the criminal justice system in Virginia.
Experience in survey design and construction using webbased survey software.
Professional training/certification in areas related to statistical data analysis and reporting.
Special Instructions
Interview candidates may be required to demonstrate the skills and abilities necessary for satisfactory performance of work. The candidate selected for the position must successfully complete a criminal background investigation and complete and submit a Form I9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) which will be entered into the Federal EVerify system to confirm identity and work authorization. The individual may also be responsible for submitting an annual Statement of Personal Economic Interest. In addition the selected candidate who begins original employment or reemployment in this position must serve a 12month probationary period effective from the date of employment. The anticipated starting salary range is $82500 to 91500 plus the states benefits package.
