We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our dedicated Child Welfare Team in Grants Pass as a Family Engagement Specialist and Certifier (Social Service Specialist 1).

Summary of Duties
As an employee working within the Child Welfare Program you will have an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Oregons most vulnerable children and families. Your dedication will help us achieve the Child Welfare Vision for Transformation that will support children and young adults to be safer healthier experience less trauma and achieve a greater wellbeing.
As a Family Engagement Specialist and Certifier you will:
Family Finding: Work with Child Protective Services and Permanency Caseworkers to identify relatives for placement of children and/or maintain cultural and family of origin connections.
Review screening reports to identify relatives and contact information.
Utilize all available data systems to identify and locate relatives.
Engagement: Engage relatives in understanding the emergency certification process
Engage relatives in understanding the entirety of what it means to be a relative resource parent.
Engage relatives of families currently involved with the Child Welfare system through phone calls mail email and in person to include home visits.
Certification: Evaluate resource home applicants. Interview family and references observe home conditions and assess applicants ability to work with children and their understanding of child abuse and neglect.
Develop a training plan with the certified family in order for the family to meet their training rule requirements and/or to best support the relatives to best safely care for and meet the needs of the children in placement.
Assess and prepare documentation participate in case staffing and seek supervisory review for the approval denial or revocation of a Certificate of Approval for all resource parents or relative caregiver.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelors degree in Human Services or a field related to human service; OR
A bachelors degree unrelated to Human Services and either:
One year of Human Services related experience; OR
Completion of coursework equivalent to certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency; OR
An associate degree and either:
Two years of Human Services related experience; OR
One year of Human Services related experience and related training coursework or certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency.
Essential Attributes
We are looking for candidates with:
Demonstrated knowledge about crisis intervention conflict resolution behavior management and the impact of trauma.
Knowledge or understanding of child development and the impact of trauma.
Experience defining and explaining complex rules and guidelines in a variety of settings.
Experience effectively engaging with families under challenging and timesensitive circumstances.
Experience communicating complex technical and legal information in an understandable language to people of diverse education language cultural backgrounds and internal and external partners.
Experience navigating technology and multiplecomputer systems including writing/typing long documents to reflect a familys culture strengths struggles and mitigating circumstances.
Experience working in a team as a unit and a larger team (branch/statewide) and communicating.

Working Conditions
Work Locations: Offices homes of participants and community sites.
Travel: Occasional travel for meetings trainings and other case related activities. This includes required occasional overnight travel.
Hours: Regular work week with fluctuating hours; occasional overtime may be needed including evenings and weekends.
OnCall: You may be part of a rotating oncall schedule that includes evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements: Frequent physical activity including lifting up to 50 pounds and assisting children with car seats.
This role involves handling sensitive topics related to trauma abuse and crises requiring a traumainformed approach that is essential to ensure a safe environment.
You may interact with individuals who have experienced trauma and may have difficulty managing their emotions.
Be prepared for stressful situations that require quick decisionmaking to ensure safety for yourself and others.

The Oregon Department of Human Services does not offer visa sponsorship. Within three days of hire you will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Securitys I9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States. Finalists must be cleared by the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) through a fingerprintbased criminal records check.
A valid drivers license and acceptable driving record are required for this position.
