SUMMARY/PURPOSE
To support library service.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
For both oneofakind and repetitive tasks the supervisor makes specific assignments that are accompanied by clear detailed and specific instructions. Incumbents work as instructed and consult with the supervisor.

SUPERVISION GIVEN
Does not supervise.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Sort and shelve library materials.
2. Retrieve library materials.
3. Inspect materials.
4. Empty bookdrops.
5. Prepare new materials for the collection.
6. Basic support tasks (copying filing cutting/folding shredding).
7. Cleaning and maintenance of library equipment and collections (keyboards toys etc.)
8. Shelf reading.
9. Be an effective team member by exhibiting selfmotivation supporting other employees in handling tasks interacting effectively and respectfully with others showing a desire to contribute to the team effort accepting assignments willingly and completing tasks within agreed upon timelines.
10. Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Age Requirements
A. Must be 16 or older by date of hire. Special scheduling restrictions apply if candidate is younger than 18 years old.

License Requirements
A. No specific licenses required.

Knowledge Requirements
A. Knowledge of basic computer operations.
B. Knowledge of problemsolving and conflictresolution techniques.
C. Knowledge of applicable safety requirements.
D. Knowledge of or the ability to learn City policies and procedures.

Skill Requirements
A. Basic oral and written communication skills.
B. Skill in the operation of office equipment including but not limited to general computer systems job required software applications the internet and modern office equipment.
C. Skill in managing ones own time.
D. Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

Ability Requirements
A. Ability to learn basic library organization and terminology.
B. Ability to file alphabetically and numerically.
C. Ability to be available for three or four shifts a week including working evenings and weekends as scheduled
D. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
E. Ability to tactfully courteously and effectively refer patron requests to appropriate staff.
F. Ability to create and maintain a positive working environment that welcomes diversity ensures cooperation and promotes respect by sharing expertise with team members fostering safe work practices and developing trusting work relationships.
G. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with members of the public.
H. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
I. Ability to understand and follow instructions.
J. Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
K. Ability to attend work as scheduled and/or required.

Any applicant who has been found qualified to participate in a selection process for a position in the classified service who has reason to contest the validity or fairness of any step in the selection process may appeal to the Civil Service Board within 10 calendar days of the examination. (If the examination is an Education/Experience Review the applicant must appeal within 10 calendar days of the closing date for accepting applications.) The notice of appeal shall be in writing shall contain a complete statement of the matter in controversy and the relief requested and shall be signed and dated by the appellant.
