The Program Director role is a subject matter expert (SME) that is responsible for the daytoday coordination functions of the program while assisting the Department Chair and Dean in the program activities events and operations. The Program Director assists with the development of the course schedule for the program including classes and labs. The Program Director plays an active role in faculty and staff recruitment and training. This position works with students other faculty other program directors the Department Chair the school Dean classified staff professional staff college VicePresidents college President and community stakeholders/leaders.
General PD Responsibilities
Assist the Department Chair (DC) in managing the daytoday operational aspect of the program.
Analyze programmatic needs and ensures that the program alignment with industry standards and accreditation standards meeting all standards as outlined by accrediting bodies.
Recruit screen and recommend the hiring of parttime faculty to the Department Chair. Supervises and evaluates parttime faculty and student workers as needed and as delegated by the Department Chair.
Assists the Department Chair with daytoday supervision of parttime faculty.
Provides program budgetary oversight but might not be the account manager. (Lab fees and other program budgets are provided to the Program Director every semester by the Department Chair).
Provides support to the Department Chair in daytoday activities addressing program/department specific matters and concerns procurement and representing the Chair in meetings as necessary.
Actively supports faculty development for both full and parttime personnel monitoring communication protocols while maintaining and reviewing part time faculty credentials.
Actively participates in curriculum development and review while reviewing and adopting textbooks.
Serves as liaison between students and the program/department to address student concerns and guides students on programmatic requirements. Serves as student advisor for the affected program.
Leads the daily operational aspects of the program and its facilities and equipment.
Meet with internal and external constituents representing the department/program to key stakeholders and advisory boards.
Participates in grant development and writing as required.
Assists Department Chair in monitoring effectiveness of curriculum and facilities of the program/department while assisting the department in unit planning strategic planning and accreditation efforts.
In conjunction with the Department Chair provides support for postsemester activities including ongoing student recruitment.
Develop program protocols and procedures for safety of students within program courses and labs. Monitor all aspects of safety.
Demonstrates a commitment to diversity equity and inclusion.
Other duties per the CBA and as required or assigned.
Specific DH Responsibilities
Hold regular DH Calibration meetings multiple times per semester and ensure compliance with standards/decisions set forth.
Evaluate student mastery of skills and competencies required by the department school and collegewide committees.
Maintain regular office hours to support student success.
Provide academic advising and career mentorship to students.
Ensure timely grading and feedback for students.
Establish a comprehensible and accessible grading system to ensure that students can monitor their own progress throughout the program.
Submit students course letter grades and ensure the compliance of other DH instructors each semester on or before the deadline.
Create uniform guidelines for Satisfactory student progress in the program or submit Unsatisfactory progress and/or Administrative Withdrawal paperwork in a fair and consistent manner and timeframe.
Develop and update curriculum syllabi and course materials to align with current industry standards.
Establish a database of teaching material for all DH courses so that any instructor can teach the course if necessary.
Stay current with advancements in dental hygiene education research and technology.
Participate in institutional committees meetings and program activities.
Maintain licensure certifications and health documentation as required.
Ensure compliance with all accreditations licensure and industry standards.
Manage student recruitment admission and retention initiatives.
Create and submit faculty and course schedules/workloads on or before the deadline each semester.
Complete NWCCU annual assessment report.
Assist in budget preparation fiscal administration and faculty evaluation.
Lead selfstudy and accreditation review processes.
Represent the Dental Hygiene Program at local state and national professional meetings.
Participate in community outreach servicelearning and workforce development initiatives.
Stay informed on regulatory and policy changes in the dental hygiene field.
Perform all other PD duties as assigned or required.
Work Contract Key Points
The Dental Hygiene Program Director is an A contract position.
This is a 12month contract that is normally reserved for faculty engaged in yearround programs or work responsibilities.
The PD will accrue annual leave and sick leave.
The PD will be assigned release time to perform administrative duties to comply with CODA standards.
There will be reassigned (release) time to perform the administrative duties for this position.
Required Qualifications
Masters degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university.
Graduate of a CODAaccredited Dental Hygiene or Dental program.
Licensed Dental Hygienist or Dentist (must have a Nevada Dental Hygiene or Dental license upon first day of employment).
Minimum of three years of fulltime clinical experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist or Dentist.
Must have three or more years experience teaching in a dental hygiene education program.
Experience with CODA accreditation and documentation requirements.
Must have educational theory and methodology (e.g. curriculum development educational psychology test construction measurement and evaluation).
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Provider Card/Certificate.

Preferred Qualifications
Five years of clinical experience as a fulltime Dental Hygienist.
Previous teaching experience in multiple Dental Hygiene topics.
Experience in supervising and evaluating faculty.
Experience in budget preparation and fiscal administration.
Experience working with diverse/multicultural student populations.
Additional Requirements
Ability to pass background checks and drug screenings.
Provide all vaccination/titers as required by the Dental Hygiene Program and/or healthcare facilities.
Any additional requirements which may arise.
Starting Salary Range
Initial salary placement is based on educational level and total years of fulltime equivalent teaching experience. For example for an instructor with a Masters degree the salary range would be $58046 to $74304 annually. The entire salary range is up to $89166 annually with a Doctorate and 10 years experience. A maximum of 10 years of experience will be considered for initial salary placement purposes.
