Job Description

The Assistant Professor of Mathematics will engage in teaching research and service activities in the field of mathematics. The assistant professor will teach undergraduate and/or graduatelevel courses in mathematics including but not limited to algebra precalculus calculus and trigonometry. This position requires a dynamic individual who is dedicated to fostering student success driving scholarly innovation and engaging in meaningful service to the university.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and revise course materials to enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics including foundational subjects (e.g. algebra calculus statistics) and advanced topics (e.g. abstract algebra topology or applied mathematics).
  • Prepare course materials such as syllabi assignments and assessments that align with departmental and institutional learning objectives.
  • Conduct research in pure or applied mathematics contributing to advancements in the field.
  • Develop teaching practices that promote equity and address the needs of underrepresented groups in STEM fields.
  • Advise and mentor students on academic and career planning.
  • Seek external funding for research projects through grants and collaborations.
  • Stay updated on current developments in the field of mathematics by expanding the departments offerings.

Education

  • A Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related field. All But Dissertation (ABD) candidates may be considered with evidence of completion.
  • Experience of teaching at a college or university level is preferred.
  • Must be able to lift 10 pounds.
