Job Description

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Primary Care Director of Nursing the Clinical Educator practices within the MA Nurse Practice Act ANA Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics and demonstrates BILH core values that reflect its mission. The Clinical Educator facilitates the provision of expert nursing care to patients and functions as a clinical/educational resource to nursing staff in Primary Care. The Clinical Educator maintains a current level of knowledge and skill with the provision of patient care in the ambulatory setting complies with all regulations and standards of regulatory and accrediting bodies and is currently licensed in the state of Massachusetts as a registered nurse.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:



1. Participate in the development of formal and informal educational programs to assist nursing staff with meeting performance expectations including but not limited to New Employee Orientation Annual Skills Fair and the inhouse Clinical Assistant training program.

Work with the practice Directors Manager staff nurses and medical assistants in determining educational programs for the practice.

Develop and implement educational programs as a result of annual educational needs assessment.

Participate in the development and presentation of Primary Care wide educational programs.

Develop and implement orientation schedules and programs for new staff members.

Review current research findings to determine if pertinent to the Primary Care setting.

Evaluate counsel and document the competency and performance of nursing staff.

2. Partner with BILH Primary Care leadership in quality safety and improvement initiatives including but not limited to the BIG program and Quality and Safety Coach program

a. Develop standards of practice/protocols.

b. Educate nurses about standards of practice/protocols.

c. Coordinate and implement nursing education on new or revised policies procedures products and equipment.

d. Participate in committees.

f. Promote maintenance of educational files and resources for the department

3. Collaborate with staff nurses on the assessment planning intervention evaluation and documentation of nursing care.

1. Integrate the components of professional nursing practice by serving as a role model. These components include clinical practice consultation collaboration leadership education evaluation and continuous quality improvement.

2. Demonstrate professional behavior.

Demonstrate a commitment to patient safety.

Adhere to policies and procedures related to such issues as dress code punctuality illness vacation scheduling and overtime.

3. Adhere to practice guidelines specific to the setting.

Uses resource manuals and professional journals to assist with integrating evidencebased practice into nursing care.

Seek guidance from appropriate resources and settingbased experts.

4. Demonstrate skills as a responsive team member.

Assure completion of individual assignments.

Function without supervision in a manner appropriate for experience.

Recognize and respect the role of other health care providers.

Delegate work appropriately and provide direction and guidance to support personnel.

Share information with other members of the team to establish or contribute to the plan of care.

Seek support from peers.

Offer support to peers.

5. Uphold standards of quality nursing care.

Identify variances in the use of clinical pathways when appropriate.

Recognize the importance of continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Participate in continuing education appropriate to practice.



Clinical Scholarship

Incorporate researchbased knowledge into nursing practice.

Participate in nursing research projects.

2. Demonstrates a commitment to lifelong learning.

Identify typical problems occurring in providing care to common patient populations.

Review practice decisions with experienced personnel to evaluate effectiveness.

Seek work experience that will strengthen skill acquisition and experiential learning.

Identify learning needs and seek appropriate assistance from experienced personnel.

Set realistic goals for own development.

Participate in professional nursing organizations.

Participate in Shared Governance Councils and/or nursing/organization committees.

3. Serve as resource for students from affiliated schools of nursing and allied health.

Provide support to nursing staff so they may serve as preceptors for student role.



Organizational Requirements:

Maintain strict adherence to the BILH Primary Care Confidentiality policy. Incorporate BILH Primary Care Standards of Behavior and Guiding Principles into daily activities. Comply with behavioral expectations of the department and BILH Primary Care. Maintain courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients. Demonstrate an understanding of the job description performance expectations and competency assessment. Demonstrate a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adhere to Customer Service standards. Participate in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities. Participate in and successfully completes Mandatory Education. Perform all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.



Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Master of Science in Nursing or related field. Graduate of Approved/accredited School of nursing.

Licensure Certification & Registration: Current license to practice professional nursing from the Massachusetts Board of Registration and Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification/instructor

Experience: A minimum of five years of ambulatory nursing experience required;

Skills Knowledge & Abilities: Clinical Skills/Technical Knowledge:

Demonstrates the necessary clinical competence in area of nursing practice.

Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

Basic computer skills.

Hybrid/ Up to 75 % travel
