Job Description

Safety Director Job Description
SAFETY Director in its entirety to ensure that our fleet accomplishes our job safely with good drivers and meets DOT as well as our Insurance Requirements. Safety Director is responsible for overseeing the Safety Dept and that Western abides by DOT rules and maintains a Satisfactory rating. Safety is responsible for reviewing the applications informing management of the individuals background history driving record safety habits driving test and all the necessities to have a safe DOT legal driver for Western.
This person will handle all accidents from start to finish ensure all accidents and reported damage are entered into TMW system within 24 hrs. with informational emails sent out to insurance and key personnel. Accident lists will be maintained and a monthly summary report of all accidents and their status will be submitted to management Monthly.
Drug and alcohol program will be kept in compliance with DOT guidelines and tests will be performed within accordance of the law. Records of tests will be kept in compliance.
All work comp reports will be handled by Safety and turned over to HR in accordance with their rules and procedures.
Supervision of one recruiter and Safety Supervisor
Work to ensure we are in compliance with FMCSA
Manager will oversee:
- Safety/Accidents
- Ensure all drivers are aware of how what and whom needs to be called in a accident
- Handle all accidents from start to finish
- Inform Carver & Management of all accidents weekly spreadsheet
- Establish Safety Rules Policy Forward to all departments for participation
- Ensure that WDTC recovers all expenses from accidents keep a copy of payment with file monthly summary report to Managers
- Report once a month to Manager the results and costs of accidents for the month those that are recovered and those that are not and why
- Inform Manager of any outstanding claims not paid and proceed with collections with Office Manager
- Accident log and modify if needed.
- Meet with CMCA safety council
- Permits
- Logs
- Instruct and bring current drivers into compliance
- Inspect audits discipline and train drivers accordingly
- Analyze reports on each individual dept. of the fleet.
- Monitor log violations daily
- HazMat (NOT NEEDED AT THIS TIME)
- Drug/ Alcohol Program
- Retain current program and continue its operation
- Ensure program meets any new requirements
- Maintenance
- Watch current safety/maintenance items of concern and advise of problems or improvements
- New Hires
- Screen all drivers prior to hiring insurance and company req.
- Road Test all drivers fill out form and file
- Ensure that all new drivers meet our req. in the 90 days
- Prehire & Recertification Physicals
- Keep current and up to date DOT physicals Driver Licenses & Vio. & Rev.
- Issue and track all physicals done at WDTC
- Work Comp
- All work comp reports will be handled by Safety and turned over to HR in accordance with their rules and procedures
- Log all injuries on proper forms.
- Submit first report of injury to corporate and Pinnacle
- Educate managers on employees restrictions modify duties needed
- Collect information from Aviation and copy to corporate
- Log and report end of each month cost and lost time report to
HR/Management

- ensuring that records on it belong to Western and not another carrier
- petitioning any records that are inaccurate
Hours would start early 8am5pm in order to schedule in equipment for repairs and PM Maintenance and can consist of 10to12hour days (or until the problems for the day are resolved and the next day has been planned to the best of their ability) 1 hr lunch 5 days a week with an oncall status for issues/problems. Dress is mid formal business attire (no jeans tie shirt or dress). This person/position will also be a part of Westerns A Team and will be required to be involved in team meetings events projects and leadership of Western and that it is always #1 in customer service!
