Summer STEM Academy Student Helper (High School Student)

Limited Defined Employee (LDE)

Location: Northwood Middle School

$1275 stipend

July 7 2024 July 24 2025

7:45am 2:00pm

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for assisting and working collaboratively with the lead teacher to deliver daily lessons. Perform duties that are instructional in nature or deliver direct services to students. Serve in a position for which a teacher or another professional has ultimate responsibility for the design and implementation of educational programs and services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional efforts.
  • Prepare lesson materials bulletin board displays exhibits equipment and demonstrations.
  • Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers using lectures discussions or supervised roleplaying methods.
  • Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
  • Supervise students in classrooms halls cafeterias school yards and gymnasiums or on field trips.
  • Conduct demonstrations to teach such skills as sports dancing and handicrafts.
  • Distribute teaching materials such as textbooks workbooks papers and pencils to students.
  • Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
  • Observe students performance and record relevant data to assess progress.
  • Organize and label materials and display students work in a manner appropriate for their eye levels and perceptual skills.
  • Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical mental and social development.
  • Plan prepare and develop various teaching aids such as bibliographies charts and graphs.
  • Prepare lesson outlines and plans in assigned subject areas and submit outlines to teachers for review.
  • Provide extra assistance to students with special needs such as nonEnglishspeaking students or those with physical and mental disabilities.
  • Use computers audiovisual aids and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current STEM student.
  • Student of the Mead School District.
  • Experience with K12 students in districtapproved activities and STEM events.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Evidence of productive experience with problembased learning.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to multitask and work independently.
  • Ability to handle complaints with patience and efficiency.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent writing skills and demonstrated ability to develop written reports and action plans.
  • Ability to project a positive and concerned image to the public.
  • Ability to handle complaints with patience and efficiency.
  • Considerable knowledge of Windows Macintosh and Chrome platform proficiency.
  • Knowledge of school operations preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

A person working in this position will exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally while carrying pushing and/or pulling to move objects. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unaided and may lift over 50 pounds with the assistance of another person and/or a lift assist. While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand walk sit some stooping kneeling and/or crouching; and significant fine finger dexterity.
