The Alaska Department of Fish and Game Division of Commercial Fisheries is recruiting for a Fish and Game Program Technician located in Nome!

What you will be doing:
This position serves as an administrative/technical position for the Commercial Fisheries Division in a multidivisional office and is the first point of contact the public has when they enter the office or call. This position will answer questions from the public about Fish & Game regulations openings and closures and/or direct the public to biological staff to answer their questions. This position will issue fishing hunting and trapping licenses and tags and permits and provides accounting and clerical support including computer data entry and report generation processing payroll and travel authorizations for biological staff. This position may also provide support to field camps by shopping for supplies ordering materials and travelling outside the office to villages and field camps may occur.

This position will interact with the public daily in person by phone and email. The work schedule is normally between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with one hour off for lunch Monday through Friday. There may be times when it is necessary to start earlier or work later during the day on a weekend (usually during the fishing season) or for upcoming fisheries meetings. This position will meet many residents of the Norton Sound area and have opportunities to visit villages department field camps and participate in sampling of catch at commercial fish plants.

The working environment you can expect:

This position is primarily based in a standard office setting located in the State of Alaska Building. The office is on the ground floor and serves as the reception area of the Fish and Game office. This position will assist the public obtaining licenses and permits and answering questions regarding fishing and hunting and provide support to department personnel with accounting time sheets and other administrative tasks. Occasional travel to local villages by small aircraft or vessels to assist staff.

Who we are looking for:
This position requires a selfmotivated person who is comfortably working independently. Computer skills in Microsoft Word Excel and Outlook are required. Attention to detail is required in performing tasks analyzing details and spotting errors. Must have a proven ability to provide accounting clerical and office support based on administrative policies. The position will process credit card payments invoices financial spreadsheets time sheets and other human resource tasks. This position is required to handle sensitive confidential information.

A valid drivers license is required.

This position may be in possession of or have access to firearms/ammunition.


Minimum Qualifications

Two years of office clerical experience or technical experience related to fish wildlife or habitat resources;
OR
One year of experience providing advanced clerical services based on established procedures precedents and policies in administrative informative and/or programmatic functions. This experience includes work such as an Office Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution:
Postsecondary education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience).
