Landscape Services Business Office Mgr.
Salary: $72100 $88100 annually depending on experience.

MSU Landscape Services has been maintaining campus as a living learning laboratory since 1905. We are responsible for all aspects of landscape construction and maintenance including snow removal signage hardscape maintenance golf course maintenance tree care and general repair on the campus of Michigan State University.
This position will be the point person for all human resource situations for department in collaboration with IPFs Human Resource department. This includes but is not limited to: staffing requests hiring termination salary increases developing screening matrices scheduling of interviews development of diverse hiring committees coordinating staff moves coordinating performance excellence compliance for all supervisors and staff in the LS department and manage all on boarding of staff. Manages all administrative procedures directly related to the management or general business operations of the department or its customers; Formulates affects interprets and/or implements department policies processes or operating practices. Overseeing account activity and financial transactions through accounts. Processing financial transactions. Planning for departmental goals both long and short term. Candidate will cocreate departments functional budget with Support Services. Oversees creation and reports critical information to senior leadership including data findings metrics Key Performance Indicators market trends and other business data points. Evaluates current processes and leads the implementation of business solutions. Analyzes data and report findings and seeks root causes and develops solutions and recommendations. Designs creative highquality business solutions that are ontime and onbudget by effectively managing resources. Develops top quality reports and delivers wellorganized impactful presentations. Creates processes to ensure confidentiality and privacy of employee information and organizational data. Demonstrates awareness and appreciation for the global multidimensional and diverse perspectives of all and makes decisions based upon experience data facts and reasoned judgment in the organizations line of business. This position will be the supervisor for all front office operations including coaching direct reports on utilizing business processes and procedures assigning work approving time off and performance excellence.

Job responsibilities are as follows:
25%: Department HR issues create interpret explain policies to supervisors and staff. Coach supervisors. Serve as a resource for staff from five different unions. Oversee operational activities organizational practices policies and procedures. Manage office staff and administrative work. Liaison with MSU and employee for workers comp FMLA unemployment etc. issues.
25%: Responsible for managing all departmental hiring. Staffing coordinator for FTE hiring leading role in search committees to fill positions developing matrices implementing outreach and advertising strategies and managing onboarding of all staff. Oversee union compensation schedules and increases; maintain employee handbook consistent with University policies maintain expectation document templates for all staff and templates for dependability policy.
25%: Oversee account activity and financial transactions through accounts. Processing financial transactions. Planning for departmental goals both long and short term. Point of contact for department with campus offices such as Purchasing University Services MSU HR Administration etc. Oversees creation and reports critical information to senior leadership including data findings metrics Key Performance Indicators market trends and other business data points.
25%: Front office maintenance including equipment and supplies. Supervisory duties associated with fulltime employees and students; assigning work approving time off performance excellence etc. Management and maintenance of departmental electronic filing systems. Maintaining advanced knowledge of industry initiatives and innovation. Form focus committees and keep staff informed and feeling valued create buy in from staff during change.
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a fouryear college degree program in Human Resources or a Business Related Field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in office procedures and administration or in Human Resources; experience in a supervisory role; experience with word processing database spreadsheet presentation software and/or desktop publishing web page software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with creating business office procedures and operations; experience in facilities operations; experience with policies and procedures; experience with labor relations practices; expert knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook Word Excel); knowledge of work order management systems (such as Planon) enterprise resource planning systems (such as SAP) and financial management systems (such as Kuali); excellent customer relations skills; ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population; ability to work independently and as an effective member of a team; ability to establish and use key performance indicators to assess performance and drive organizational improvements; ability to develop teams and plan direct and manage complex operations and staffing; excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask yet give attention to detail with frequent interruptions; ability to maintain focus on strategic priorities while managing routine tasks; ability to handle confidential issues with complete discretion; selfstarter who possesses good decisionmaking skills and demonstrated ability to followthrough.

Normal work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00am3:30pm with occasional after hours and weekend work. Schedule may occasionally vary to support events onboarding sessions or other department tasks and initiatives.
