The CFOArizona is the Strategic Finance Leader for Arizona and is responsible for financial direction and oversight of the Arizona campus with annual revenues of nearly $3 billion. The CFOArizona is a member of the Finance Leadership Team (led by the enterprise Chief Financial Officer). He/she will collaborate with physician and administration leaders throughout Mayo Clinic to identify lead and support broad strategic institutional activities and change initiatives. He/she serves as a strategic partner catalyst and advisor to the Arizona Executive Operations Team (AZEOT) proactively advising on relevant internal and external environmental factors that could affect financial and operating performance in the short and longterm. The CFOArizona actively participates and influences institutionwide planning and decisionmaking leveraging their financial expertise and knowledge of best practices. The CFOArizona focuses on efficient and effective delivery of financial services for the Department of Finance shared services functions supporting Arizona and acts as a catalyst for change to ensure the needs of the site leaders are being met or exceeded. In addition to being a finance leader he/she will be a true people leader focused on developing the workforce of the future accelerating performance through clear expectations and goal setting and ensuring that career conversations succession planning and development plans are embedded in the way we do our work. Direct reports will include a team of analysts in an Office of the CFO that will support future oriented financial planning and analysis and new service models for financial advice and insights. In addition to this team of direct reports the CFOArizona is accountable for indirectly overseeing finance staff.
The primary responsibility for this role is to be impactful in driving performance by being a subject matter expert on matters of contemporary healthcare finance and their application to Arizona circumstances; by maintaining clear understanding and situational awareness of operating performance and its key drivers; by using expertise to provide insights into performance opportunities; by fostering a credible and influential presence in leadership circles with department chairs and the consulting staff; and by demonstrating passion and enthusiasm for Mayo Clinics position as the preeminent healthcare provider in the world. These elements are performed through traditional means including advising site and enterprise leaders on operating and capital budgets leading the monthend and quarterend financial close activities collaborating with shared service leaders on performance and service improvements (revenue cycle supply chain revenue strategy and innovation and financial and accounting services) collaborating with service line leaders and advising site leadership in strategic and change oriented initiatives to effectively prepare for the future.
In addition to the CFO responsibilities this position will be responsible for driving performance improvement within Arizona including leading the financial assessment of identified areas for improvement developing strategies and projections identifying quick wins establishing the goforward operating model implementation governance and ongoing monitoring. This position will utilize and model process improvement techniques such as LEAN/Six Sigma.
The Chief Financial Officer Arizona reports to the Mayo Clinic Chief Financial Officer and receives direction from the Mayo Clinic Arizona Vice President Operations and the Chief Administrative Officer. He/she collaborates with peers within the department of finance (other site CFOs and shared services leaders) as well as practice and administrative leaders. The CFO will serve as the Treasurer for the Arizona Executive Operations Team (EOT) have regular interactions with site based committees and at times enterprise committees providing strategic and performance based updates and seeking the advice and counsel of members and other stakeholders. He/she will directly or indirectly lead a team of finance professionals to discharge the duties of the position.
Masters degree in business or healthcare administration is required. Minimum of ten years of finance experience; ten or more years of which must be in successive leadership roles across multiple assignments. Experience working with Physician Leaders required hospital experience preferred.
