Embark on a fulfilling career at BNSF Railway where joining the Telecommunications Department offers you the opportunity to be part of a dedicated team focused on maintaining the communications systems across the network. The Telecom Maintainer II position manages essential telecommunications systems that ensure safe and efficient train movements and communications.
This is a fulltime(40hrs/wk) position 6 days a week (5 regular working days and one oncall day). Subject to oncall (24/6) overtime alternate shifts nights weekends and holidays. Shift assignments are governed by union agreement typically based on seniority.
Travel is 50% to 80%. Travel to (and remain at) job sites for extended periods sometimes for days or weeks at a time in the designated seniority region.
Training for this position is companypaid onthejob and classroom training and will include travel to the BNSF Training Center.
Key responsibilities may include:
Installing testing inspecting maintaining repairing and troubleshooting communications equipment both inside and outside to include assembling and/or dismantling communications equipment parts and related items.
Installing testing and maintaining fiber optics cables towers antennas power plants and microwave/radio sites as well as terminating overhead/underground cabling and performing tower erection rigging installation and maintenance. Includes climbing towers.
Operating trucks and various equipment (tractors trenchers and digging machines) to support Telecom work.
Daily work is conducted in a safety sensitive environment where the working conditions can include diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot cold rain snow and sleet) walking and performing work on uneven surfaces working around loud noises fumes and heavy/moving machinery.

Basic Qualifications:
- Able to work in the US without company sponsorship now AND in the future.
- 21 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to report for duty at the designated work location.
- Able to work safely in the above working conditions.
- Able to work the above shift/hours.
- Able to meet the above travel requirements.
- Able to read write and communicate (speak hear and understand)inEnglish.
- Able to lift and carry up to60pounds.
- Have a valid ClassACommercial Drivers License (CDL) or be able to obtain one within240days of employment
- Able to visually distinguish among red blue green and yellow colors.
- Abilityto differentiate between verbal and nonverbal sounds (signals alarms etc.) and discriminate (comprehend) verbal communication in the work environment.
- Able to use handsand hand toolsto perform activities involving holding grasping turning and pulling.
- Able to perform work on uneven surfacesclimb ladders and on/off equipment.
- Able to work from a boom truck basket.
- Able to bend walk stand and sitoccasionally with breaks.
- Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment required for the job in a safe manner.
- Able toclimb and perform work on tower structures in excess of 50 feet.
- 3 years minimum of verifiable experience coordinating information from several sources to assign work assignments and coordinate schedules.
- 1year minimum of verifiable experience conducting analysis of computergenerated reports.
- Able to multitask technical activities and office duties.
- 1year minimum of verifiable experience in budgeting and material management.
Union membership is with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and union dues are required per union agreement.
